In a shocking reversal of what was promised during the game's early days, players of Disney Speedstorm will no longer be able to acquire the yearly season pass using accumulated in-game credits. Instead, they’ll be required to spend actual currency.
Disney Speedstorm has distinguished itself upon release as the only game to allow players to purchase season passes, referred to as Golden Passes, using in-game credits called Tokens instead of solely requiring actual currency for the transaction.
This feature has allowed players to accumulate any Tokens earned throughout the seasons, incentivising them to endure the grind to earn them. The latest update from developer Gameloft, however, turns that advantage upside down by restricting Golden Pass purchases to real money.
It's no surprise that many players are feeling let down by this change. A number of them have taken to the social forum Reddit to express their frustrations. One post even suggested a boycott of the new season, starting on April 17, in protest of this significant policy change.
Despite this change, the upcoming update to Disney Speedstorm is bringing in a new feature called Tournaments. This feature, according to Gameloft, is a way for players to experience content from previous Seasons through new multi-stage Racer Tournaments.
This update also introduces Vault Passes, a mechanism through which every previous season’s Golden Pass rewards and race tracks are attached and accessed by the players. Players can work towards these Vault Pass rewards by racing in the relevant season’s race tracks.
They can choose not to purchase the Vault Pass bundles if they don’t want to, but they can access only the free rewards and not the premium.
