Your time is now! Will you join the Division?
In less than 24 hours, you will become part of a classified unit of tactical agents who are attempting to restore order as society crumbles around them. You will become a Division Agent.
But, how will you survive in New York City amidst a ravaging pandemic?
Well, that's why we’re here. Our Tom Clancy’s The Division starter guide will provide you with useful tips to help prepare you for your first day in the field.
So, let’s get started.
- You can play The Division alone or co-op with up to four people in a squad, but make sure you choose your teammates wisely. You don’t want to be betrayed in the Dark Zone, as your so-called ‘ally’ chooses to go Rogue and pilfer your hard earned loot.
- Do not neglect your Base of Operations! In order to unlock new skill sets and abilities you will need to upgrade your wings individually, not by levelling up your character with experience. – i.e Upgrade the Medical Wing to receive more health and healing options.
- Your Agents’ level is also an important task, as certain items have a minimum level requirement in order to equip them. Want the best gear in the game? You’ll need to be the correct level.
- Explore everywhere. You can find loot crates on deserted rooftops, alleyways, and even apartment complexes. You want to explore literally every area the game allows.
- If a civilian NPC is in need of aid, hand over the goods they require, and you’ll be rewarded with experience points and/or an item drop.
- Replay missions on harder difficulties to receive more XP and the possibility of better loot drops. Keep grinding until you have the best possible weapons and armour before you venture off into the Dark Zone.
- Do not go into the Dark Zone alone! Yes, The Division is made for lone wolves too, but it’s not recommended to go wandering through the PvP zone without trusted allies to watch your back. Even with decent gear and one person watching your back, you never know what’s waiting for you around the corner.
- Be aware of your surroundings while traversing the Dark Zone. If you see red skulls, be wary, as those Rogue Agents may be hunting down Division soldiers.
- Always keep an eye out for agents carrying the yellow contamination on the bottom of their backpacks, especially if you are standing at an extraction point. No bag? Chances are they are waiting to snag yours. Find good cover and wait for the helicopter to arrive, but don’t let your guard down! Rogue Agents will always wait until you’re most vulnerable, i.e., the moment you are attaching your gear to be extracted.
- Alternatively, you can also use the above information to your advantage if you are a Rogue Agent. If the player doesn’t have a contamination bag, they’re probably not worth your time or effort.
- You’ll occasionally scavenge lock picks which will help you obtain a nice stash of gear from behind an otherwise locked door. Make use of them!
- In a hurry? Use Fast Travel. Many users missed this feature in the beta, but there is an option to Fast Travel on the map, as long as you aren’t in the Dark Zone.
Tom Clancy’s The Division will launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 8th.
