Warner Bros. Officially Announces MultiVersus Fighting Game

Warner Bros. and Player First Games' MultiVersus fighter is real after all, and it's a free-to-play game planned for release in 2022 on PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and PC. MultiVersus will include full cross-platform support as well.

If you can't wait that long, Warner Bros. is taking sign ups for a playtest, though it's not guaranteed you'll get in.

The Burbank, California, publisher announced MultiVersus following weeks of rumors and even a leaked roster, though instead of the usual free-for-all like we see in Super Smash Bros. and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. It's a team-based, 2-v-2 game with emphasis on pairing outlandish characters and even more outrageous moves.

Warner Bros. Officially Announces MultiVersus Fighting Game

"Featuring matches with a strong emphasis on online cooperative gameplay, every fighter will be outfitted with a deep set of combat mechanics that distinguish the game’s fresh take on 2 vs. 2 gameplay. This allows combatants to boast customizable movesets that combine dynamically with other characters as they battle for supremacy," Warner Bros. said in a statement.

"From Wonder Woman and her Lasso of Truth attack being unexpectedly paired with Shaggy and his sandwich projectile, to Arya Stark’s face-swapping ability being used to complement Superman’s laser vision, the impossible can become possible through surprising team combinations and matchups."

MultiVersus' fighters bring arenas from their worlds as well, such as the Bat Cave and Jake and Finn's Tree Fort.

Warner Bros. Games' David Haddad said MultiVersus will have multiple seasons with events and new characters, though made no mention of how long each season will last.

Unlike Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, MultiVersus will feature a star-studded voice cast:

  • Kevin Conroy as Batman
  • George Newbern as Superman
  • Abby Trott as Wonder Woman
  • Tara Strong as Harley Quinn
  • Matthew Lillard as Shaggy
  • Eric Bauza as Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry
  • Maisie Williams Arya Stark
  • John DiMaggio as Jake the Dog
  • Jeremy Shada as Finn the Human
  • Daniel DiVenere as Steven Universe Estelle as Garnet
  • Andrew Frankel as Reindog
