Until Dawn Remake Release Date Estimate
Ballistic Games and PlayStation have not yet revealed a release date for the Until Dawn Remake outside of 2024.
However, thanks to the original game's release date, we do have a release date estimate that we feel is pretty solid. Even so, be aware that until a release date is confirmed, this is pure speculation.
Considering the subject material, you would assume that the original Until Dawn was released in October time, even November or September at a push. However, this is not the case, as it was, in fact, released in August 2015.
With that in mind, we speculate that the Until Dawn Remake could be released as soon as August, with the latest release date being November time.
Until Dawn Remake Platforms
The Until Dawn Remake will release in 2024 on only two platforms, PS5 and PC.
The game's release on these two platforms makes sense, considering they were the platforms for the original game's release. That said, never say never about the game one day coming to Xbox.
Is the new Until Dawn a remake or remaster?
As you can tell from our headline, Until Dawn is firmly a remake despite having a fair amount of arguments made for it being a remaster. There are more than enough changes being added to the game to make it an overall remake.
For one thing, the Until Dawn Remake has been completely redone in Unreal Engine 5. This means improved VFX and upgrades to animation, character models, and environments.
But what really sells the game as a remake rather than a remaster is that new scenes, deaths, and more will be added. Could this perhaps mean a new ending? Only time will tell.
Until Dawn Remake Story
A group of young adults return to a lodge in the Blackwood Mountains, a year after a terrible prank caused the death of their two friends, twin sisters Hannah and Beth Washington. What awaits them is death, mystery, and new twists and turns that could lead to tragedy — depending on the choices the player makes.
As an interactive drama, players should expect to make difficult decisions and choices that will have an overall effect on the ending they get at the end of the game.
Despite being a remake, this new iteration of Until Dawn seems as though it'll be following the original story with no big changes overall. However, this does not mean there will be no additional scenes or interactions.
All The Changes Being Made To The Until Dawn Remake
With the Until Dawn Remake happening, it's clear that players should expect some level of changes in the game. As we're able to tell from the PlayStation blog, the changes being added to the game are as follows:
- An upgrade to character models, environment and general VFX.
- Completely rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5
- Both new and improved animations
- A different tonal color palette to help add a more cinematic feeling to the game.
- New locations to explore
- New collectibles and interactions
- New contextual character animations
- New music score coming from Mark Korven
- Expanded story (New parts, scenes, etc)
- Incorporation of a third-person camera
Until Dawn Remake Gameplay
A gameplay trailer for the Until Dawn remake has been revealed, and in it we get to see some of the more cinematic scenes from the original rendered anew.
Like the original, the Until Dawn Remake is an interactive drama with numerable choices to choose from. As such, the gameplay will be a combination of third-person exploration in linear environments, such as inside the lodge's many corridors, as well as snowy paths of the Blackwood Mountain, and dialogue choices that will dictate character relationships.
There will also be opportunities to collect items, like clues, as well as totems. Totems are lined in different colors and depending on said color, players will be granted visions that give them clues on what might be useful (or be afraid of) when exploring future scenes.
The original Until Dawn also had many action sequences, with QTE (quick time events) dictating whether character movement and actions (such as being quiet or being able to make a jump across a ravine) would be successful or not.
For now, that's all we know about the Until Dawn Remake. But be sure to check back later as we'll update this guide with all the latest news as and when it comes.
