Ever since its conception in the early 1970s, the horror video game genre has slowly evolved, and horror game fans have possibly experienced almost everything the genre has to offer.

From survival and psychological horror games such as Resident Evil and Doki Doki Literature Club to action and reverse horror games like Dead Space and Dead by Daylight, horror games have come a long way in terrifying and inducing fear in many gamers who love the thrilling sensation.

Technology has also contributed significantly to the genre's progress. Unreal Engine 5's use of dynamic illumination and Nanite has made games like The Matrix Awakens look stunning and visually appealing. Just in time for Halloween, horror fans will have the biggest scare of 2024 now that an Unreal Engine 5 game, DON'T SCREAM, has been released on Steam.

DON'T SCREAM is a first-person horror game that looks so realistic and terrifying that you'll have difficulty holding your screams. The game's goal is straightforward: just survive a night in a haunted forest without dying or making noise.

Using a camcorder to record your progress through the forest, DON'T SCREAM, will help you survive the creatures lurking within the forest while trying to keep your camcorder alive by collecting batteries. This won't be easy, though, as the game will restart as soon as you make any kind of noise, whether it may be screams, tiny whimpers, or even aggressive farts. Yes, farting will be lethal in this game.

Shared in a post on X by DON'T SCREAM's official X account, they showcased several clips of the game, including one that displays how a fart can end your journey through the forest. While many horror games like A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead and Phasmophobia utilize the mic as part of the gameplay, none has reached what DON'T SCREAM did to include all kinds of human noises. Imagine doing your best not to scream throughout the game just to end your playthrough, thanks to the burrito you had earlier.

DON'T SCREAM is currently only available on PC and requires relatively modest hardware, as long as players have an available microphone. If you have trouble finding great headphones for this fantastic horror game, we've got an awesome set of recommendations for you.
