In May 2021, Vitalik Buterin donated 50 trillion SHIB to the India Crypto Covid Relief Fund, alongside his massive SHIB burn.
This SHIB, which was gradually sold off until September 2021 for over $400 million, has now started funding various projects in India.
Vitalik Buterin, who had to buy a new laptop just to burn SHIB, has now shared further details about the recipients. Here's what he said.
Shiba Inu Donation Update
In a Twitter thread, Buterin gave an update about several recipients of money from his now established Balvi Fund.
Here, he listed the following as having received some money towards their projects, stemming from the original SHIB donation. These include:
- Rapid Deployment Vaccine Collaboration
- Upper Room UVGI Project
- ActiveBuilding's Indoor Air Quality monitors and air cleaners
- A research project into long COVID symptoms
"Balvi is excited to support them, and many more projects will be funded soon," he added.
In the replies to Buterin's post, members of the ShibArmy celebrated the update and use of funds. However, they did point out that the Ethereum co-founder had tagged the wrong Twitter account in the post.
Shiba Growth Breed member Milkshake said: It's @Shibtoken Vitalik, that's the wrong account. But thank you for such [an] update."
Others specifically noted that Buterin called Shiba Inu a coin, rather than it being a token.
In January, the Crypto Relief fund praised SHIB for the donation, after announcing it had spent millions on the likes of syringes, medical equipment, ventilators, and ICU beds through Buterin's funds. However, its website, which previously showed the full breakdown of spending, appears to be down.
According to an Airtable on its Medium, it had $277 million remaining at the end of April 2022.
