Call of Duty players often compare and contrast maps to see which are the very best in the shooter franchise and when it comes to Warzone 2, it’s no different. Whether it’s Verdansk, Al Mazrah, or Fortune’s Keep, everyone has their favourite.

With the start of Season Three moving into view, several members continue to reminisce about the memories they created in the first iteration of the battle royale. More often than not, this leads to numerous calls for Infinity Ward to introduce older maps into the rotation.

Rather than wait for the developer to act, one fan is taking matters into their own hands and recreating an iconic map in Unreal Engine.

Warzone maps in Unreal Engine?!

In a recent post, Reddit user RiotShieldGod420 revealed they’re in the middle of recreating the hugely popular Rebirth Island battleground using Unreal Engine 5. “I’ve decided to bring back Rebirth Island because I miss it and nobody else is going to.”

The images showcase a rough layout in addition to a closer look at the prison building in the centre of the map. As expected, many Rebirth Island fans are hoping to drop into the action soon. “I just want to play with my squad again on one of the best maps I’ve ever played on,” reveals the user creating it and it appears there are plenty more that want to. “The map seems to be good,” comments another excited fan.

To evade any potential legal hurdles from Activision, RiotShieldGod plans on adding their own flare to the battle royale experience with different weapon names, loot boxes, and more. However, it might be a while before we see the finished product. “Don’t expect an alpha test for a year or two,” says the developer behind the project.

Since Warzone 2 launched, fans have asked for a map rotation that works similarly to Apex Legends. Rather than two maps remaining static, the idea of using four or five that rotate every few hours prevents the same battlefield from growing stale which is always a good thing.
