Update - May 24, 2023: Treyarch has restricted the use of thermal optics in ranked play. It's unclear if they'll return

When it comes to building a strong Warzone 2 loadout in Season 3 Reloaded, selecting a strong combination of attachments is a key ingredient in order to gain the upper hand over the opposition.

With so many different attachments to select in the gunsmith ahead of Season 4, finding a set of five that packs a punch as the meta evolves seems like an impossible task, but there are always some that stand out from the crowd.

The latest overpowered attachments players are using are thermal optics and thanks to a bug, players can spot enemies through smoke grenades even with Cold Blooded equipped.

Warzone 2 thermal optics are broken

In a recent video from Warzone 2 expert JGOD, the content creator demonstrates the overpowered nature of various thermal scopes and how the exploit has the potential to ruin matches.

The video shows JGOD using a thermal scope to spot an opponent standing inside a smoke grenade and even with Cold Blooded selected as a perk, they’re still visible. Cold Blooded should conceal the position of players from thermal scopes, and it’s clear to see something isn’t working.

This discovery is particularly bad news for those dropping into ranked matches. Throughout Season 3 Reloaded, players have utilised smoke grenades to make rotations into the next circles, but with thermals rendering them useless, there’s a high chance tactics will change in order to evade an early trip to the gulag.

JGOD says the issue has impacted Warzone 2 since it launched, much to the annoyance of fans realising another game-breaking issue is affecting gameplay. It’s unclear if Infinity Ward and Raven Software are aware of the problem but many are hoping for some kind of quick fix to stop it affecting a key aspect of the battle royale.
