Activision confirmed that Verdansk will return to Call of Duty Warzone during COD Next in August 2024. However, the announcement was followed by resounding silence, with no hints of exactly when and in what form the iconic map would return.
Verdansk was the original Warzone map before it was phased out—obliterated out of existence, if we're being precise. Newer maps didn't live up to its lofty standards, and with the past always seeming golden in hindsight, players have been longing for Verdansk's return.
Rosy, retrospection or not, it was a defining moment for the battle royale and the series, and you don't always get to dial back in time like this. But when is it coming back?
Verdansk's possible return date in Warzone
We do not know the definitive date for Verdansk's return in Call of Duty Warzone, but it is confirmed to be sometime in Spring 2025. That's all we know officially about Verdansk's return.
However, reliable leaker TheGhostOfHope has hinted at the Season 3 release on X (formerly Twitter).
Season 2 will begin on January 28, 2025. Since each season lasts around two months, a good guess for the release of Season 3 is mid-April.
It checks the tentative "Spring 2025" release date, and Season 2 will be a bit early for that. Unless, of course, Activision decides to move it early in mid-season to coincide with the fifth anniversary, as the original Warzone was released in March 2020.
Likewise, it could also be pushed back to S3 Reloade, which should be around May 2025. Activision will confirm the exact release date when it is close. At worst, it is four months away, so it is not a long wait.
Will Verdansk change with the re-release?
We do not know if Verdansk will receive any changes or updated POIs when it returns to Warzone in 2025. Between MW 2019 and the Cold War, Verdansk had a couple of interactions in the Warzone cycle, but we'll likely see something closer to the original MW map.
Updated and added POIs and gameplay additions aren't out of the question to reflect the more frantic action of Black Ops 6. We will have to wait for official confirmation to know whether it is a by-the-books version of the original map or slightly tuned in. Verdansk did return, but for mobile with Warzone Mobile, it features the original version of the map.
