Marvel Rivals is promising a roster of 33 heroes to come launch, but so far, the revealed characters have only counted up to 27 (as of the time of the writing of this article). Fans expect to know the full roster of heroes come launch in December, and the most recent reveal gives us a look at Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye.
Often underlooked in multiple mediums, Hawkeye for Marvel Rivals looks like a duelist with long-range and melee abilities that hearken to his time as the Ronin.
Hawkeye Officially Revealed
Though some fans have been speculating about Hawkeye coming to the game for a while, a recent character reveal has given fans a breakdown of his different abilities and unique ultimate.
“With a tough past and a hard childhood, Clint Barton knew struggle at an early age. Persevering through the hardships, he's become a master marksman with unparalleled precision.”
The breakdown of Hawkeye’s abilities includes:
Attacks
- Piercing Arrow – Shoots a straight, powerful arrow
- Blast Arrow – Clint shoots three explosive arrows at the same time (requires reload)
Abilities
- Crescent Slash (LSHIFT) – Clint takes out his katana and slashes forward; this attack allows Clint to launch enemies into the air away from him.
- Hypersonic Arrow (E) – Hawkeye shoots an arrow that deals damage to enemies in its path.
- Ronin Slash (V) – Hawkeye’s melee ability deals damage to nearby enemies, but it can also be used to deflect incoming projectiles.
- Skyward Leap (SPACE) – Clint has the ability to double jump, which allows him more movement on the playing field.
- [Passive Ability] Archer’s Focus – Holding the fire button enhances the damage the Piercing Arrows can inflict on enemies.
- [ULTIMATE] Hunter’s Sight (Q) – Clint can project ‘After images’ of enemies in his view, and attacking these images will inflict damage on the corresponding enemy.
The Unmatched Sharpshooter
As far as play style goes, some say that Hawkeye’s kit makes him best for one-on-one fights, but he also has great mobility and can put a lot of distance between himself and his enemies.
His ultimate ability is unique, but paired with his explosive arrows, he does have the potential to inflict maximum damage if he’s able to attack all the afterimages at the same time.
Immediately, Overwatch enthusiasts will compare the character to Hanzo, a very mobile archer. When it comes to his difference with Hawkeye, it does seem that Hawkeye’s arrow variation is more damage-focused, and he doesn’t have a skill that helps him see where the enemies are clearly—an ability that is usually worked into snipers.
With Hawkeye entering the game, the only hero missing from the Avengers roster is Black Widow, who could be revealed in one of the following leaks leading up to the game's release; fingers crossed.
Hawkeye launches with a roster of 33 characters when Marvel Rivals hits PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on Dec. 6.
