Street Fighter 6's roster includes classic, new, and crossover characters, like Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury/King of Fighters.

Now, this February, we will see the arrival of one of SNK’s mascot fighter girls, and it’s only fitting that her reveal should have her facing off with Street Fighter’s poster girl, Chun-Li.

Mai Shiranui Comes to Street Fighter 6

In a new gameplay reveal from Capcom, fans have a first look at gameplay for Mai Shiranui, the kunoichi fighter from Fatal Fury and King of Fighters. Check this out:

While Street Fighter 6 embraces the classic look of Mai from her original series, they also have a skin based on her new look for the upcoming Fatal Fury game set to release this April. For comparison, here’s what Mai looks like in that game:

Like the rest of the classic Street Fighter heroes, Mai was created in the 1990s, and her aesthetics have essentially stayed the same. In addition to her classic ninja look, she fights with a fan, and her powers are all flame-based.

Admittedly, it does seem like Mai is less sexualized when it comes to her appearance in Street Fighter. Comparing her reveal for the upcoming Fatal Fury game, it does seem like City of Wolves isn’t going to be shy about the game’s characters being sexualized.

How to Unlock Mai in the Game

Mai will join Street Fighter as the newest master in the game’s World Tour mode. Mai will unlock automatically on launch day for anyone who owns the Year 2 Character Pass/Ultimate Pass. Anyone who wants to work their way to unlock her can use Fighter Coins.

To unlock the City of Wolves outfit, players must maximize their bond with Mai during the World Tour mode; it can also be unlocked via Fighter Coins, so it just depends on which route a player wants to take.

With SNK characters Terry and Mai coming to the game, it looks like Street Fighter is returning to its original characters moving forward. According to Red Bull, the next characters lined up for the DLC include Elena (from SFIII), Seth (from SFIV), Rufus (from SFIV), Sagat (SFII), and joke character Dan Hibiki (SF Alpha).

It’s unclear when the next characters will be revealed, but the showcase for Mai makes sense, as some players are also waiting for the comeback of the Fatal Fury series in April. While we won't get our hands on that yet for a few months, Street Fighter at least has some playable faves like Terry and Mai.

Note that the characters list is only for Year 2 of Street Fighter 6. It’s possible they could be introducing way more by the time Year 3 comes around.

Mai Shiranui comes to Street Fighter 6 on Feb. 5 for PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
