One of the most buzzed-about games to be announced at The Game Awards was Neil Druckmann’s next title, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Naughty Dog has kept the lid on what kind of story people should expect from the game.

A leak on 4chan (via Twitter) has revealed the game's plot. Since this pretty much happened with The Last of Us Part II, many fans are convinced that this could be legitimate.

Fake Leaks Debunked

The leak has said that the story breakdown was sent to journalists like Jason Schreier, who, according to Forbes, denied that anything was sent to him or this ‘exclusive Discord server’ for game journalists.

The best clue we have about Druckmann's story is his description of it in the New York Times: “The story is quite ambitious as it centers on a fictitious religion and what happens when you put your faith in different institutions.”

For context, here’s the leaked story that came out on Twitter and is being shared by thousands of people:

Seeing that a 4chan leak had accurately revealed what was going to happen in The Last of Us Part II, a lot of fans were quick to believe that this could actually be the story of Intergalactic, and while it does seem plausible at first, there are just too many holes in the story considering the leak of the plot, from the source being a disgruntled ND employee to the story being shared among insiders.

What Do We Know about the Game?

So far, the best things we know about the game is surface level. It’s been confirmed that the story takes place in a retro sci-fi world inspired by Akira and Cowboy Bebop; so even if there is space travel, a lot of the tech is still pretty analogue.

Cast members like Tony Dalton, Kumail Nanjiani, and Troy Baker have also been confirmed for the game, but it’s unclear what their roles are going to be. It does look like they have a history with the protagonist Jordan (Tati Gabrielle) who seems to be a space bounty hunter.

As far as gameplay goes, it does look like Jordan wields some sci-fi weapons and will be going up against some big robots. No details have been revealed besides the cinematics, but it has been said that Intergalactic features some of the ‘deepest’ gameplay that Naughty Dog has ever put into a game.

With Druckmann’s obsession with video games and empathy, it’s very possible that he could still be going the same direction for Intergalactic. Sure a lot of fans were torn apart with The Last of Us Part II, but maybe Intergalactic has an emotional story with a bit more brevity to it—The perfect set-up for an expectedly devastating The Last of Us Part III.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has no solid release date yet, but it’s expected to come out for the PS5 in the next few years.
