Marvel Rivals may be free to play, but fans know the game has multiple ways to profit from players.
The game currently has three kinds of currency—Lattice, Units, and Chrono Tokens—and it’s been revealed that one of these is set to reset every season of Rivals, so players better make sure they spend them when they can.
Chrono Tokens Will Refresh Every Season
According to an official statement from the developers, players’ accumulated Chrono Tokens will reset at the end of each season. The developers are doing this to encourage players to engage with the current season’s Battle Pass.
With Marvel Rivals announcing that Luxury Battle Passes don’t expire in the game, the devs were concerned that players would end up ignoring the current season’s Battle Pass to just focus on the BP they had bought.
With this resetting system in place, players are forced to embrace the current season’s Battle Pass, which is said to have a narrative sense for the overall story the devs are trying to tell. The devs have also made it a point that even though Battle Passes don’t expire, players are still encouraged to complete them in the season they were made available.
It’s also worth noting that the progress on the Luxury Battle Pass doesn’t translate to the next season, either. The LBP will remain locked depending on the amount of Chrono Tokens a player has, and they will have to earn enough tokens again to get to the further pages in the Battle Pass down the line.
This then allows the players to decide whether to spend their Chrono Tokens on an old Battle Pass or keep grinding on the new one based on the season.
What About Chrono Tokens That Were Paid For?
While Chrono Tokens are generally earned with playtime, the game offers players an option to purchase them with actual money (i.e., the Lattice currency). For any tokens purchased with Lattice, the game confirms that there are ways to keep them for the following season, but it will depend on whether players have bought a Luxury Battle Pass.
The game will do something called the Automatic Item Redemption for anyone who owns the LBP. The system will automatically claim items in the default sequence until there aren’t any Chrono Tokens to redeem. After the auto item redemption kicks in, the game will even e-mail players what items they got.
If there are still some tokens left, though, even after the AIR, the devs have confirmed that players can keep only their purchased Chrono Tokens. Here’s a sample scenario from the statement:
“- Let' s say you spend a total of 1,000 Lattice to secure 1,000 Chrono Tokens in the current season. Then, the season ends, and the automatic item redemption is completed. Here’s what happens after:
· If 500 Chrono Tokens remain, then these 500 Chrono Tokens will be retained for the next season.
· If 1,500 Chrono Tokens remain, then the 1,000 purchased Chrono Tokens will be retained for the next season.”
Marvel Rivals is now available to play for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The current season, Season 0, is expected to end this January 2025.
