Breakdown

  • World of Warcraft could be coming to Xbox systems
  • The game's vice president confirms that talks have taken place
  • Xbox could gain a ton of players if WoW was on Game Pass

Popular MMO World of Warcraft might finally be coming to consoles, particularly Xbox consoles, now that Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard. While the MMO is quite old, the fact that fans are still playing the MMO to this day shows that it’s still a draw to many.

Holly Longdale, the vice president and executive producer of this MMO, recently spoke with VGC about bringing this popular title to Xbox Series systems. Longdale doesn’t confirm that the MMO is coming to systems but has said talks were had of bringing it over to Microsoft’s console.

“We’ve got these three expansions and we are so excited about them. But, yeah, of course. It would be very insincere to say that we’re not, like… of course we’re talking about that,” Longdale says. “We are Microsoft now.”

Gamers everywhere are still playing World of Warcraft, but we can’t imagine playing the game on console, due to how PC specific it's been. However, that hasn’t stopped other PC ports before and we’re sure the developers can make this work, if given enough time to work on it. Only time will tell if we’ll actually see this MMO hit Xbox consoles, but weirder things have happened before.

Square Enix recently brought Final Fantasy XIV to Xbox systems, after previously being exclusive to PC and PlayStation users for the longest time. Final Fantasy XIV is arguably more popular than WoW, but we do think these two MMO kings can co-exist on the Xbox Series consoles.

World of Warcraft is still an ever-expanding MMO, always trying to do new things that will keep its passionate player base actively participating in it. Recently, we saw a battle royale mode brought to the game, played on a completely different server from the MMO. That would play well on Xbox Series systems, especially if the game is part of Game Pass.

At the time of writing, World of Warcraft is only available on PC through Battle.net and that’s not a dealbreaker for anyone.
