With the release of Tears of the Kingdom less than a month away, plenty of Legend of Zelda fans are already counting down the days until they can take to the picturesque plains of Hyrule again.

As such, a lot of these long-time Link lovers have been quenching their thirst for adventure over the past few weeks by watching the game’s third trailer on a loop, tuning into a Breath of the Wild challenge run on Twitch or spending hours ogling the official art of TotK’s Ganondorf.

However, it seems some Nintendo fans have already got their sights set on what could be in line for the Zelda series once its latest massive mainline entry has hit the shelves, with many seemingly desiring a dose of nostalgic vibes.

What kind of Zelda game do you want to see follow Tears of the Kingdom?

These wishes are outlined in a couple of recent social media and forum threads, one of which can be found on ResetEra and takes the form of a poll set up by user SketchDog, who asked their fellow fans: “(In terms of the) Zelda series, what do you think comes after Tears of the Kingdom?”

So far, 135 Zelda buffs have cast their vote, with each of the six options SketchDog has set up having garnered at least a few tallies in what’s shaping up to be a two-horse race for the crown between the options of “Ports, remakes and remasters” and “New original games in (the) old 2D or 3D style”.

As of writing, the former holds a narrow lead with 41 votes, 30.4% of the total share, over the latter, which has amassed 33 votes (24.4% of the total). Lagging slightly behind in third place is the option of solely focusing on remasters, which, with 25 votes, is slightly ahead of the fourth- and fifth-place choices of just remakes and just ports.

Sadly for those seeking a dramatic change of pace, bringing up the rear is “Spinoffs like Hyrule Warriors and rhythm games”, which only has 8 votes to its name, 5.9% of the overall turnout.

Meanwhile, on Reddit, user uebersoldat has declared their specific desire for an old-school NES-style adventure from a top-down perspective, leading BrSbagel to recommend they try out an indie game like Tunic and Tryen01 to joke: “I mean, the skydiving parts (of Totk are) top-down.”
