With the release of Tears of the Kingdom now within touching distance, Legend of Zelda fans are desperately counting down the days until they can take to the picturesque plains of Hyrule again.
For those Nintendo stans who’ve made it through the past few weeks desperately bingeing Breath of the Wild challenge runs and getting into intense debates about Ganondorf’s appearance, Friday simply can’t come soon enough.
While a bunch of Link lovers have already taken to social media to reveal their plans for the big day, a new survey among the section of Zelda fans on ResetEra is providing some interesting insight into which version of the game people are choosing to invest in.
Which iteration of Tears of the Kingdom have you chosen to invest in?
This purchase-focused poll can be found in a leak-free thread recently set up by user Meelow to host all of the initial reaction to the game from the legions of forum posters who’ll be parachuting into Hyrule on May 12.
To kick off what's already morphing to a pretty lengthy thread, they chose to set up a poll asking: “(Are) you getting the physical or digital version (of the game)?”, offering only those two options as potential answers.
As of writing, 685 prospective players have cast their ballot, with the responses being split pretty evenly between the two. Physical currently holds a relatively narrow lead, having amassed 403 votes to digital’s 338, painting an interesting picture of the community’s current preference when it comes to buying games.
That said, obviously there are a wide range of factors that contribute to these kinds of decisions, making it pretty futile to try and infer anything substantial from this data about the wider debate it’s linked to, especially given that its sample size is still relatively small at this point.
If you’re not interested in the purchasing decisions of your fellow Zelda fans and are instead still looking for things to keep you occupied until Tears of the Kingdom lands, you might want to check out a recent Reddit AMA session conducted by ZREO: Second Quest, a group of musicians who specialise in creating interesting reorchestrations of the Zelda series’ iconic soundtracks.
