In order to get to some of the highest places in the new Zelda game, or more often along lava or rivers, you'll need to learn how to use Recall in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. This is a new skill that replaces Stasis from the past game, giving Link the power to rewind time on a localised object. In the right situation, it's also a powerful attack option.
As it's a near-essential party trick for reaching the islands in the sky, the new Recall ability will prove vital to your journey. So, let’s take a closer look at one of the new mechanics added to and see what else you can expect to pull off with it.
How does recall work in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?
Recall is a new skill that allows you to touch a signal an object to move back in time for a few seconds. Check out this short gameplay video to see what we mean.
Because the ability only affects the targetted object, it has a bunch of uses for combat and traversal.
For example, you'll often need to use Recall on a bouyant object flowing down a river, sending it back the other way for you to ride up or, in some cases, across an otherwise impassable area.
Another use is to send falling debris from the sky above back to where it came from. By hopping on for the ride, you can travel high into the sky with ease, giving you quick access to the Zonai structures above or a great gliding point to travel far away more quickly.
Lastly, you can even use Recall to avoid damage. By quickly targeting a projectile like a rock or arrow, you can fling it back to the sender, hurting them instead of you.
How to use Recall in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
To use Recall, you first need to unlock it from one of the first shrines on the Great Sky Island tutorial area. Once you have it, just hold L to select it from the wheel. Until you choose another ability, you'll then be able to activate it with a quick tap of L at any time.
While active, just aim your crosshair at the target. They can be very far away. Tap A when prompted and you'll see the effect play out. The world pauses while you select your target, so you don't need to have lightning-fast reactions to fling items back at your enemies.
Until the effect wears off one target, you won't be able to use it again. So keep that in mind.
