Black Ops Cold War is finally here, bringing players back to the age of spies and feathered haircuts.
It's also sold more digital sales than any other title in the franchise's history, according to Activision Blizzard's EMEAA MD Anna Malmhake.

Black Ops Cold War Has Highest First-Day Digital Sales in Call of Duty History
According to GamesIndustry.biz, Malmhake noted that "set a new record as the highest first-day digital sales worldwide in franchise history.”
When you think about it, though, it makes a lot of sense.
With many markets still in lockdown, including the UK, it's perhaps unsurprising that physical sales would taper off for this year.
Then there's the fact that this is the first Call of Duty title since 2013's Ghosts to launch on next-gen hardware, meaning it's likely many will have been on the lookout for a game to play at launch on Xbox Series S/X and PS5.
Interestingly, Activision has revealed how the game's sales are spread across each platform.
39% of sales were from PS4 consoles, while 34% came from Xbox One, while 17% came from PS5. Only 9% came via Xbox Series S/X consoles.
Considering the publisher's marketing partnership with Sony it's perhaps not too surprising that PlayStation would draw in larger numbers of players, but it's interesting nonetheless.
