Back in May 2021, Raven Software confirmed that it was working on a next-gen version of Warzone, much to the excitement of the community that has been wanting an improved version of the popular battle royale in order to make the most of the powerful consoles. Since then, the developer has remained silent as to when players can expect an upgraded version of Warzone to appear on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

Despite the silence, some are still holding out for some kind of upgrade so current-gen players can fully maximise their brand-new hardware.

There were rumours of a next-gen update making its way to Xbox Series and PS5 consoles as part of the Season 5 update during the Black Ops Cold War era. This never materialised and with Warzone 2 in development, it's likely that a current-gen port of the current battle royale build won't surface.

What Will The Warzone Next-Gen Update Include?

Until the patch notes are released, we won't know what changes have been made to optimise Warzone for the next-gen consoles. While there is no official information, we can determine what it will include based on community requests and rumoured changes.

Considering the immense graphical power of the PS5 and the Series X|S, it's highly likely that the update will include significant performance enhancements in order to make the most of the capabilities of the console. Alongside visual improvements, there's also a chance of Warzone being able to run at 120fps at 120hz. Players can already utilise the increased FPS cap to their advantage and with even more power available, Warzone will run smoother than it ever has on a console.

One feature that has been heavily requested from console Warzone players is the addition of a Field of View (FOV) slider. This feature enables players to change how much of the surrounding area is on show. A slider is already available on the PC version of Warzone as well as Black Ops Cold War and as demand shows no signs of slowing down, implementing a slider into the console version of the battle royale in the next-gen update would certainly improve the game for many.
