The big update for PS5 which finally allowed PS5 owners to expand their internal storage has been and gone, and now we're all itching to know when the console will support 1440p native.
It's been in demand for some time as the console itself (for now) can only output in 1080p or 4K resolution, with 8K support yet to be unlocked.
1440p for many is seen as a bit of a sweet spot when it comes to getting fast fps and solid resolution, especially if you pick the right screen size for gaming.
Let's take a look at what we know so far, and exactly when we could expect the PS5 to be updated with 1440p support.
When Will PS5 Support 1440p?
It looks like we could finally be seeing 1440p support for PS5. Sony stated in a recent blog post that they would be releasing a Beta for 1440p support on PS5.
While at the moment the beta is limited to invited participants, we're hoping to see 1440p support launched globally in the near future.
After a recent update from Sony, the PS5 now supports VRR on HDMI 2.1 compatible TVs and Monitors and so it looks like Sony will hopefully roll out support for 1440p too.

What's So Great About 1440p?
You may be wondering why the demand is so high for 1440p monitors, especially since the PS5 is capable of running at 4K.
The answer is largely around three areas: fps, resolution and price.
FPS
At the moment, one of the best ways to access high framerates is by 'sacrificing' resolution.
If you wanted 120 fps for instance, but don't have an HDMI 2.1 monitor or TV, then one possible option is reducing the visual output resolution to 1080p and combining it with the right monitor.
Currently, the Xbox Series X can output in 1440p, leaving some PS5 owners without the option.
We're even seeing some brilliant 360Hz / 1440p displays heading our way soon which could be worth keeping an eye out for.

Resolution
But surely 4K looks better? Well, you'd be surprised.
Many gamers aren't playing on enormous screens, especially those who are playing competitively, so a 1440p resolution on a 27" monitor, can look brilliantly clear thanks to the laws of pixel density.
The same goes for a 1080p image on a smaller screen too.

Price
On the whole, 1440p monitors are a sort of mid-ground in terms of cost and performance, with some of the best 1440p gaming monitors coming in at around $350.
Even if you've secured a PS5, you may not want to shell out for the latest and greatest monitor just yet, especially if you can potentially get high fps and decent resolution with something cheaper in the future.

Should You Get A 1440p Monitor For PS5?
Now that's the big question!
At the moment, we'd say hold on until more information is announced.
Since PS5 outputs at either 1080p or 4K, what you could find is that the resolution will be upscaled from 1080p to fit your display, which may not look so great.
