Virtual Football Organisation Announced
A brand-new FIFA 17 tournament has been officially unveiled at Barcelona Games World, however, unlike traditional FIFA competitions, the new league will adopt a twist to the current eSports scene, with the tournament scheduled to implement full 11 vs. 11 matchups via the game mode Pro Clubs, incorporating a classic football format.
The Virtual Football Organisation is scheduled to kick-off in January 2017 and will feature the likes of Sevilla Fútbol Club, Villarreal CF, Real Aviles C.F., Real Sociedad, Real Zaragoza, and Real Sporting de Gijón, with eSports teams x6tense and Philips set to join in as well. All teams partaking in the tournament will be divided into divisions, similar to that of a modern football league, with promotions and relegations occurring for the top four and bottom four teams of each division.
It has also been revealed that the Virtual Football Organisation will be open to additional teams, including amateur ones, however, they will be placed in lower divisions.
The Virtual Football Organisation is an interesting and unique competition, which abandons the typical 1v1 format of traditional football simulation tournaments. However, while the attraction of prestigious professional football clubs may appeal to some players, the success of the experiment will lie with the leagues additional incentives, its prize pool and its popularity within the community.
Ultimately, the Virtual Football Organisation will determine whether a true virtual 11 vs. 11 league can continue and spread in the future to come.
