Weapon Rarities

We'll start with the basics - veterans keep scrolling. Upon landing in the world of Fortnite, you'll see loads of weapons dotted about, each colour-coded to show how rare it is.

Rareness is a general indication of quality - the rarer a weapon is, the better it is.

However, a rocket launcher will always do more damage than a pistol and an assault rifle will always have a higher rate of fire than a sniper rifle.

With that in mind, find weapons suited to your playstyle, but remember a Rare Tactical Shotgun will also do slightly more damage than a Common Tactical Shotgun, so memorise this list or check back here when looting.

  • Grey: Common
  • Green: Uncommon
  • Blue: Rare
  • Purple: Epic
  • Gold: Legendary

Golden guns are no longer limited to James Bond movies - keep your eyes peeled for them in Fortnite, or kill minibosses like Meowscles or Midas and they'll drop their signature golden weapon.

However, there's always more loot in cities and busy areas, so drop there to have a better chance of finding a rarer weapon.

Best New And Unvaulted Weapons

Weapons are ever-changing in Fortnite games, but some great choices have appeared in Season 4!

Pump Shotgun

The Pump Shotgun is one of the best weapons in the game, and it has been Unvaulted for Chapter 2 Season 4.

Get up close and do massive damage with it for best results.

Doctor Doom's Hero Weapons

Both the Arcane Gauntlets and Arcane Bomb have their uses, but it's the latter that we like the most.

The Gauntlets are rapid, but don't do enough damage compared to other ARs or similar. The Bomb, however, does huge damage and sends opponents - and vehicles - flying.

It destroys structures in seconds and eliminates NPCs in a blink. Just be careful of its 20-second cooldown.

More on how to get them below.

Mjolnir, Thor's Hammer

We know Mjolnir is in the Fortnite game code, but it hasn't appeared just yet.

We're hoping it will be an Infinity Gauntlet-esque weapon this season!

Best Landing Spots

There are loads of options of landing spots in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4, but we'd recommend going to somewhere near the Battle Bus' trajectory.

However, these POIs are some of our favourites, if the Battle Bus is kind:

Doom's Domain

Doctor Doom has taken over Pleasant Park. There's not only a Vault here, but eliminate Doctor Doom to get your hands on his Arcane Gauntlets and giant Mystical Bomb.

These are great weapons early in the game, and a Vault is always welcome, but a lot of players will be after the Hero.

Here's our guide on getting to Victor Von Doom himself.

Slurpy Swamp

Slurpy Swamp remains a supreme landing spot. The swamps heal up your shields as you splash through them, as do the Slurp barrels in the buildings.

The buildings are chock full of gold chests and upgrade stations, perfect for getting kitted out early-game.

Dirty Docks

Dirty Docks is a quieter POI on the east coast of the map, but it's one of our favourites.

Watch out in case there's a long trip from the bus, but the variety of buildings can give great cover in a firefight, and there's usually a good amount of loot.

Rotate towards the centre of the map early so you aren't caught in the storm.

The Authority

If you don't want to worry about the storm until the endgame, head to The Authority.

The definition of a "hot drop", this busy location sits at the very centre of the map and holds loads of loot.

Crack open a gold chest asap, because you'll need a weapon for gunning down all the opponents.

How To Level Up Fast

Medals

Playing every day will reward you with experience by levelling up your medals.

These will be awarded for basic things like surviving or dealing damage, so these will be an easy way to level up.

Challenges

Challenges are like a more difficult version of the Medals. These also reset daily but offer more difficult challenges for better rewards.

These will typically involve "Getting 10 kills" or "2 kills with shotguns".

Battle Pass

Season 3 will, of course, be accompanied by a new Battle Pass.

This will give you chunks of experience as you level up, as well as modifiers for your matches to increase all that regular experience you get just for playing and doing well.

Teamwork

Teamwork is the most important factor in Fortnite - whether playing with friends or strangers.

Keep in a similar area to your team, and if possible use voice comms to let them know where you're going, enemies you're seeing, and whether you're heading into a fight or not.

Eye On The Circle

The circle is a big killer of new players.

Don't get carried away looting, especially if you land near the map edge, and move well ahead of the circle so you don't die to the gas.

Practise Makes Perfect

The Training Arena is your friend - use the weapons and get a feel for them before you drop into matches.

Learn To Build

Watch any pro tournament and you'll see how quickly the players can build - it's also what sets Fortnite apart from other Battle Royale games.

Learning to build quickly and effectively can be the difference between winning a fight and losing - so get good at this to be on your way to a Victory Royale!
