Subscribers of Humble Bundle’s monthly Humble Choice service will no longer have access to a treasure trove of video games. In a surprising email to fans, Humble revealed the Humble Games Collection is being unceremoniously killed.
In an email shared on the Humble Bundle subreddit, the company announced plans to axe the long-running games service next month. However, the older Humble Vault will still be accessible for the foreseeable future.
On November 7th, the Humble Games Collection bonus for subscribers will go the way of the dodo. The service will also not be replaced with an alternative to make up for the loss of value to the monthly subscription. Currently, the Humble Games Collection includes some of the best indie games Ghost Song and Signalis.
“Starting next month on November 7, we’ll be retiring the Humble Games Collection membership perk,” the Humble email reads. “On that day, you’ll no longer be able to access games from the Collection through the Humble desktop app for Windows PC, though you will still be able to access the DRM-free titles available in the Vault.”
The email states the company is currently “looking for ways” to bring more value to the monthly Humble Choice subscription. Currently, subscribers are able to receive a collection of games every month as well as access to the Humble Vault, the latter of which doesn’t receive new content.
Fan response to the new changes are far from positive. While many aren’t concerned with the removal of the Humble Games Collection, its sudden axing without a replacement or a price discount is upsetting.
“So we get less perks for the same membership. I didn't much take advantage of the humble games collection, but if I have a feature of a subscription removed usually I like to know that it will result in an improvement of the features I do use,” one fan explained on the service’s subreddit.
“I remember getting the humble Android app, to play a whole bunch of android games. They retired it, and the games I purchased are a lot harder to use. Now they're retiring their windows app,” explains another.
The common consensus is at least pleased with Humble’s recent improvements to its line up of game bundles and Humble Choice offerings. After years of low quality bundles, the service is seemingly back on track, even if it’s killing features in the process.
