The Elder Scrolls Online’s Gold Road expansion introduces scribing, a new system that lets us craft our own skills. While it’s an incredibly fun and powerful feature once you get the hang of it, it’s not immediately clear how to start the ESO scribing quest and how to complete it.

However, doing so is necessary to unlock the new ESO scribing system in the first place, as well as unlock upgrades that expand what you can create with it. So, you’ll need to know all about the scribing quest in ESO to get your hands on the best scribing skills for your builds.

How to Start the ESO Scribing Quest

You can start the ESO scribing quest by speaking to Adept Irnard Rirnil outside the Mages Guild Hall in Skingrad. This will begin The Second Era of Scribing quest. You can also access the scribing quest by heading into the Collections menu and activating it in the upgrades section, though the first step is to speak to Rirnil anyhow.

This means you can start scribing right away, so don’t worry if you haven’t completed the Gold Road story first. However, you do need to own the Gold Road expansion in order to start the scribing quest and unlock this new feature, much like how antiquities are locked behind the Greymoor expansion and Tales of Tribute is part of High Isle.

During the scribing quest, you will unlock the Scholarium where you can craft your abilities, some basic Grimoire and Scripts to get you started, and be given a short introduction to the system.

It doesn’t end there though, as there are follow-up scribing quests that unlock additional functionality.

All ESO Scribing Quests

After completing The Second Era of Scribing, there are four main quests to complete that unlock new features. These are relatively straightforward to complete, though are necessary to get the most out of scribing.

The Wing of the Indrik

This is the second quest in the scribing questline and it unlocks an account upgrade called Sigil of the Luminary Indrik which allows the purchase of Grimoires and Scripts from Chronicler Firandil at the Scholarium, and enemies will begin to drop Luminous Ink.

The Wing of the Gryphon

This quest unlocks the Sigil of the Luminary Gryphon account upgrade, which makes Focus Scripts obtainable from daily Delves, PvP Rewards for the Worthy, and daily Mages Guild quests. This also includes vendors at the Scholarium and Infinite Archive, where you can pick up Focus Scripts before crafting a new skill.

The Wing of the Dragon

This quest unlocks the Sigil of the Luminary Dragon upgrade which makes Signature Scrips drop from daily world boss rewards, daily Cyrodiil rewards, and daily Fighters Guid rewards. This also includes vendors at the Scholarium and Infinite Archive. This unlocks subsidized Scrips at Mages Guilds.

The Wing of the Netch

This quest unlocks the Sigil of the Luminary Netch account upgrade. This makes Affix Scripts drop from daily world events, daily Imperial City rewards, and daily Undaunted quests. Likewise, this includes vendors at the Scholarium and Infinite Archive. This upgrade also makes it so Luminous Ink can be found when harvesting nodes, which is great for farming Ink while stocking up on general materials.

Well, that’s how to start the ESO scribing quest and all the important quests you need to complete afterwards to take full advantage of this powerful new system in one of the best MMOs.
