In the early stages of Metaphor: ReFantazio, you will decide whether to assist Glodell. Glodell is your rival for the throne and is currently battling Gideaux. Like many decisions in RPGs, this moment feels significant due to Glodell's rude behavior toward you.

It might not seem right to help someone like Glodell, but there are advantages to this choice. Even if his rude attitude makes you reluctant, weighing the strategic benefits is essential. If you're unsure about your decision, this guide will help you determine whether to assist Glodell and explain how this choice affects the game's narrative.

Should You Help Glodell?

Yes, you should assist Glodell. His rude personality may make you want to stay away from him, but helping him is a wise decision. Glodell is one of Lord Louis’s allies, and since the primary objective of your party is to gain Louis’s favor, assisting Glodell will help you to achieve that objective.

Once you agree to help, you will face a miniboss fight against Gideaux and his soldiers. The best way to win this fight is to avoid targeting Gideaux directly, as you can't harm him at this stage. Instead, focus on defeating his men.

You can start with the Mage Monk because he can heal allies, making him the biggest threat. He is resistant to magic, so physical attacks will work best. Afterward, you can target the Spear Soldier, who is weak to ice magic. The battle will end once you take down Gideaux’s forces, and the story will move forward.

What Happens if You Don’t Help Glodell?

If you choose to stand back and watch the fight play out, the game still pushes you into the battle. Strohl and Hulkenberg will intervene and force you to assist Glodell whether you want to or not. So your decision doesn't change anything. The battle proceeds the same way, and the outcome remains unchanged.

The Outcome of Helping Glodell

Initially, it may appear that your decision to help or ignore Glodell will significantly impact the game, but it's a "false choice." Whether you intervene immediately or let the fight unfold before stepping in, the story progresses the same way. Glodell will remain cold and distant afterward, and he might even resent you more for helping, feeling indebted to you.

From a strategic standpoint, helping him is the smarter move, especially when building a better relationship with Lord Louis. After the battle, you will meet Lord Louis and get the chance to tell him you want to support his cause, which helps move the main story along.
