THPS 1 + 2: How To Speed Up

Skating faster is key to maximising your air time in THPS, but there's no way to "skate faster" in the traditional sense.

That's because your chosen pro (or created character) will automatically look to move faster.

That essentially makes the game more about maintaining speed in time for those big jumps.

For one, the humble manual will let you keep the points pouring in while still moving in your chosen direction.

Conversely, jumping will slow you down slightly as you ollie along, making manuals even more important.

Each will add a further multiplier to your combo, too, boosting your score.

Wall plants will also help you push off in a direction to allow for added speed, and wallriding can ensure you maintain your momentum even when approaching a vertical surface.

You can find out more about those techniques here.

Finally, you can also grind a rail to keep moving at speed, although you'll have to not only keep your balance but make sure you approach the edge at the correct angle - otherwise you'll do a lip trick instead and slow right down!

Here's an explainer of the difference between the two.
