The Acti Blog has given an explanation as to why there’s no multiplayer and spec ops in Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, which only includes campaign. The blog post details that they’ve made many changes to the franchise since 2009s original release of Modern Warfare 2, and with Modern Warfare’s release, the company has worked on bringing players together in one experience with cross-play, new free maps, and more.
In the blog post, the company states that they don’t want to release the multiplayer experience as a 'standalone pack' but would rather continue to build Modern Warfare’s experience and bring ‘more classic map experiences’ within that universe.
Meaning, as opposed to bringing multiplayer to MW2R, Activision and Infinity Ward will bring more maps we know and love to the new life within the Modern Warfare universe, as it continues to grow and build over time.
Not releasing multiplayer for MW2R makes sense right now, as it would split the CoD community further, with Modern Warfare's third season releasing soon, and players are undoubtedly still grinding through the recently released Warzone.
Although it's not what players wanted to hear, the Remastered edition of MW2s campaign is still a pleasant addition to the CoD collection.
PS4 owners can pick up the game now for £19.99 right now, whilst PC and Xbox One players will need to wait before they can play it.
Fortunately, they can prebuy it on their respective platform stores and get instant access to the Ultimate Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle in Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone.
