Modern Warfare only released three months ago and although a lot of players are gearing up for Season 2 and the rumoured Battle Royale mode, plenty of Call of Duty fans are turning their attention to COD 2020. Little yet is known about the next installment to the industry-leading franchise.
Call of Duty has dominated the FPS genre for multiple years and continues to break sale records. With the most recent Modern Warfare reboot, could COD 2020 follow a similar trend? Plenty of rumours have emerged surrounding Modern Warfare 2 Remastered and a Black Ops reboot.
So what do we know so far about COD 2020? Here's all the latest details and information.

Who Is Developing COD 2020?
Treyarch Studios will be breaking the traditional three-year cycle to produce the next Call of Duty game.
This is due to the fact that there was a massive overhaul and shift in the development team from Sledgehammer to Treyarch; which occurred during 2019.
This all came via a leak and that Treyarch's 2021 title is now being brought forward due to development trouble at Sledgehammer (who will now be helping to support the title).
Release Date & Platforms
There is no official release date for COD 2020 at this point in time.
For the past two years, the game has been released in October, but prior to this was known for releasing in November.
It's likely it will launch in October again, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Treyarch use every spare moment they have to get this as polished for launch.
The game will almost certainly launch for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and eventually Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 once they launch.
A Call of Duty game has not appeared on a Nintendo device since Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Wii U.
It's likely that Treyarch have been developing their new title for the PS5 and Xbox Series X and would then later develop a port for Xbox One and PS4.
However, if they aim to launch this game prior to the release of next-generation platforms they will need to develop the game and engine to suit the current generation of consoles - it would be no surprise to see them use the Modern Warfare engine to speed up the development process.
What Is COD 2020?
A few leaks have revealed what the name for COD 2020 might be:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 5
The game name is still unconfirmed, but it's no surprise that Treyarch will remain within the Black Ops franchise.
YouTuber LongSensation leaked that the game has two possible names. Whether it's a reboot of the original Black Ops game or a continuation of the franchise remains to be confirmed.
Leaks can be hard to trust, however, LongSensation shared the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title before its official reveal.
He claims that the game is set during the Cold War and will span the entire 40+ years, including the Vietnam and Korean War.
A Reddit user originally claimed that Sledgehammer Games were creating 'Call of Duty: Vietnam' until Treyarch took over.
It is described as being more gritty and gruesome than Modern Warfare - a major talking point surrounding this year's Call of Duty campaign.
Considering the development cycle has ultimately been cut short by one year, its easy to see how this game could be rushed and heavily scaled back in terms of ambitions.
Black Ops 4, for a game that was being developed for three-years, was extremely reminiscent of Black Ops 3 to the point it was hard to distinguish the two.
MW2 Remastered
Despite the efforts from Treyarch to get the game out on time, it would be no surprise to see the game get delayed and the void filled with the rumoured MW2 Remastered.
MW2 Remastered was the subject to much speculation in 2019 as the European ratings board gave a PEGI rating of 18 for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.
Towards the end of May 2019, Australian fans noticed that the classification board listed "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered" as 15+.
This could be targeted towards the campaign, although plenty have noted that this rating is quite low for a campaign - they argue it would receive a higher rating if it was the subject of this rating; leading many to believe it is talking about a multiplayer.
Leaks and rumours suggested that MW2 Remastered would launch with Modern Warfare, similar to how Modern Warfare Remastered launched with Infinite Warfare; but due to the great reception it received, rumours suggest that the idea was sacked.

Multiplayer
The multiplayer has had no official details revealed and its unlikely we'll see much until the Summer.
In the past few years, this has been done as a livestream reveal within the developer studios.
For Modern Warfare, they revealed an Alpha version of the Gunfight game mode, hosted by four influencers.
What we can confirm is that it will not have jetpacks, thanks to David Vonderhaar's recent Tweet.
Beta
Since Black Ops 3, a beta for the Call of Duty multiplayer has released without fail.
Last year's first beta launched September 12th - just a month out from launch.
Treyarch would be wise to put out a beta as early as possible and use this time extensively to smooth out any bugs and issues with the game; especially as their development time has been cut by a third.
Campaign
The Campaign has traditionally been revealed at E3, but developers and publishers are starting to steer away from big reveals at this event; Activision included.
Modern Warfare was revealed shortly before E3 2019 and its likely the necessary information will unfold around this time.
If its a true reboot, we could see famous Black Ops characters reintroduced - similar to Captain Price in Modern Warfare.
Zombies
The main Zombies storyline came to an anti-climatic conclusion during Black Ops 4's DLC 4.
The map, which was called "Tag Der Toten" was a remake of the Black Ops 1 Zombies map Call of the Dead.
In the final map, you play as the Victus crew and aim to solve the paradox that has unfolded and strive to put an end to the chaotic story that has unfolded over the past 10 years.
With the conclusion of this, we can comfortably say that the story will not be continued. If this is a true reboot, we will likely start a new story.
It still remains to be seen whether the characters in the past will return, with a new story, as the ending to the previous one left a bad taste in the mouths of Zombies fans.
Weapons
If the game is to take place during the Cold War, the type of weapons you may expect to see are as follows:
- M16
- M3
- M1 Carbine
- M49
- M60
- M73
- PK Machine Gun
- RPK
- AK-47
- AK-74
- Zastava M76
If you played the original Black Ops game, the arsenal selection will likely be very similar, bar a few additions.
Maps
No information about maps has been revealed, but you can expect to see some remakes resurface.
It wouldn't be a Black Ops title without Nuketown, you should expect to see a version of the chaotic model village reappear as a core map or pre-order bonus (as has been the theme in the past).
Plenty of fans have been quick to criticise recycled content with Modern Warfare with the re-release of Crash and Vacant in Season 1.
Call of Duty players will hope to see plenty of unique maps, but again with the development time being cut drastically, a large portion of the maps will likely be a remake or inspired variations.
Black Ops 4 launched with fourteen maps - four of which were remakes.
