Gamescom 2019 Schedule: The 10 Biggest Games We Expect To See At Cologne's Biggest Expo

Gamescom 2019 is around the corner and with lots of information being unvailed at E3 2019, we can expect some big announcements to follow in Cologne. The German video game fair has been known to divulge juicy first looks and never before seen information. E3 2019 fielded over 70 new titles, so we can expect this year's Gamescom to be no different.

As a result, we have hand picked 10 games to watch out for at this year's Gamescom 2019 expo including Halo Infinite, Gears 5, FIFA 20 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Halo Infinite

Developer: 343 Industries

Release Date: Holiday 2020

Platform: Xbox and PC

Microsoft ended their E3 conference with their biggest announcement in recent years, since its first tease, Halo Infinite has been the talking point of avid Halo fans for quite some time now. The trailer showcased a lost and distorted Master Chief being recused by a fellow soldier, only to be rebooted and learn the troubling news that they have lost everything. It was later confirmed that this was a campaign cutscene.

You can find all of the information about Halo Infinite from E3 2019 here

Gamescom 2019 Speculation

Gamescom 2019 may provide more news to avid fans, we may even see some actual gameplay or the introduction of the competitive multiplayer aspect of Halo. 343 have already commited to beta play testing during development, perhaps Gamescom is the place where we can hear more about it. How this may work could raise a few eyebrows, with the game set to launch with 'Project Scarlett', on what platform will wee see this testing take place?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel

Developer: Nintendo

Release Date: Unconfirmed

Platform: Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s E3 2019 panel ended with perhaps the most shocking announcement. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was Nintendo Switch's flagship game and is still widely considered one of the must have games for the portable console. There's currently no information about when the sequel may release, although Nintendo has confirmed that the game is in production and fans have been excited since. Based on the brief trailer, the sequel looks to have a much darker demeanor than its predecessor.

Gamescom 2019 Speculation

Nintendo is a typical attendee of the annual event, fans should look forward to Nintendo’s involvement, we could learn the official release date and more news into this darker Zelda realm. With the trailer in mind, it appears Ganon is being resurrected shortly after the events of 'Breath of the Wild'. How he has been revived and in what capacity he will return will hopefully be answered at Gamescom 2019.

Watch Dogs Legion

Developer: Ubisoft

Release Date: March 6th, 2020

Platform: PC, Xbox, PlayStation

The Watch Dogs series has been one of the most unique franchises in recent memory. It's a different take on the usual third-person RPG adventure game, which has seemingly allowed players to become hacking masterminds, as they can hack anything in their sight. Watch Dogs Legion has been rumored for some time now, but E3 2019 was our first official look at this game. It will be based in a post-Brexit London and has one of a kind mechanics to its campaign.

Gamescom Speculation

Watch Dogs Legion is less than a year from its official release, so Ubisoft may be hesitant on releasing any further news for this blockbuster. We will hopefully get an introduction to some of the Deadsec members and who the main antagonist will be this time around. The ability to 'recruit anyone' could be a game changing implementation and create a lot of different ways to play the story; something we hope to hear them elaborate on. Furthermore, Watch Dogs 2 introduced some unique hacking mechanics so expect no less from Watch Dogs Legion.

Cyberpunk 2077

Developer: CD Projekt RED

Release Date: April 16th, 2020

Platform: PC, Xbox, PlayStation

CD Projekt RED originally announced Cyberpunk 2077 almost a decade ago in 2012, but since has produced staple hits such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. At E3 2019, Keanu Reeves made a surprise appearance both on stage and in the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer. Reeves will play as the character Johnny Silverhand, whom we have very little details of, but we can assume that he will be one of the main antagonists.

Gamescom Speculation

E3 2019 was just a short tease for the long-anticipated Cypberpunk game, so Gamescom 2019 should be where we get some hands-on gameplay. Who exactly does Keanu Reeves play? Will he be our ally or foe? Hopefully, Gamescom is where some of these questions can finally be answered.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019

Developer: Infinity Ward

Release Date: 25th October, 2019

Platform: PlayStation, Xbox, PC

Since the Call of Duty 2019 announcement two weeks before E3 2019, information has been scarce. That's not to say the announcement didn't come with a hefty amount of intel, however E3 2019 has traditionally been the home for Call of Duty reveals; this tactic to announce early has certainly paid off for them as they stole the spotlight in the video game world.

You can get all of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 information here

Gamescom Speculation

Call of Duty games have been well known to have full multiplayer reveals at Gamescom events in the past. Guns, maps, we can expect to see more Modern Warfare gameplay as a whole as it will be just two months until it's full launch date by the time we get to Gamescom 2019.

Marvel’s Avengers

Developer: Crystal Dynamics (with assistance from Eidos Montreal)

Release Date: May 15th, 2020

Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox

When an Avengers game was first rumored, fans of the series could not wait to wreak havoc as the Hulk or throw Captain America’s shield. Now, we have our first official look at the spin-off of one of the biggest movie franchises of all time. The trailer received mixed opinions, many were irate with the outdated graphics shown, but many were optimistic about the game.

Crystal Dynamics head Ron Rosenberg added that "every new super hero and region will be delivered to players at no additional cost if you own the core game." This news pleased many as with a popular series like 'The Avengers', some other developers would use microtransactions in their favour.

Gamescom Speculation

One of the key things we expect to be told about is how certain Avengers' moves will work. Since they have mentioned new super heroes being added, perhaps we will be introduced to some new ones at Gamescom 2019 - we recently saw gameplay footage involving Hank Pym.

Luigi's Mansion 3

Developer: Nintendo

Release Date: Late 2019

Platform: Nintendo Switch

Perhaps the worst ghost hunter in existence is returning for another installment of a Nintendo classic. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is making an appearance for the Nintendo Switch sometime later this year, along with old classics such as Professor Elvin Gadd forever assisting Luigi’s goal to capture all the monsters. He will be joined by other members of the Mushroom Kingdom including Mario and Peach!

Gamescom Speculation

Gamescom 2019 may be the time we get an official release date for this game. The story so far has also been left a bit vague with no real idea of who the main villain is. E3 2019 presented us with lots of great gameplay, where it showed off a range of new mechanics and hopefully we can see more of this.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Developer: EA/Respawn Entertainment

Release Date: November 15th, 2019

Platform: PC, Xbox, PlayStation

Star Wars fans rejoice! Finally, a dedicated single player campaign is coming to our doorsteps. This AAA game is set post-Episode III, following Padawan-level Jedi Cal Kestis as he goes on the run from the Empire. Respawn Entertainment has stated that the game will have a strong eye on the in-game system, where players will need to size up their opposition before engaging. This means players can not just slice and dice their way through every enemy, even though we are wielding lightsabers.

Gamescom Speculation

Fans will be begging for more gameplay of the combat system or campaign mode at Gamescom 2019. The introduction of certain worlds or characters we could visit/meet would be my first point of speculation from EA.

Gears 5

Developer: The Coalition

Release Date: September 10, 2019

Platforms: Xbox, PC

While Gears 5 was shown last year, we were able to get a date for the news Gears launch (September 10th) and a look at a new mode for the title. The new mode is called “Escape” where you infiltrate a hive, plant a bomb, and book it out of there. The Coalition also showed off the Terminator Dark Fate collaboration and the cute Gears Pop mobile game. There has never been a better time to be a Gears fan, but hopefully, The Coalition nails how they balance the iconic “gnasher” for competitive play.

You can find out all Gears 5 information here

Gamescom Speculation

It was confirmed during the E3 2019 conference that Horde would be revealed to the world during Gamescom 2019. We will be shown how it works, new features and our first look at the enemies that we can expect to fight in horde and the campaign mode.

FIFA 20

Developer: EA Sports

Release Date: September 27, 2019

Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox

After facing plenty of criticism on FIFA 19, EA Sports needed to come back strong for FIFA 20, they may have got fans back on side with Volta Football. The mode takes the game back to street football for the first time since the last iteration of FIFA Street in 2012 and coupled with a clear focus of gameplay improvements, it’s so far so good for FIFA.

You can reead all about FIFA 20's exciting new additions here

Gamescom Speculation

Gamescom 2019 will be our final look at EA’s latest take on the worldwide game before the demo drops. EA announced the full timeline for feature reveals in FIFA 20 at E3 2019. One of the standout features is FIFA 20's Ultimate Team game mode, which is set to be revealed early August. This surely means we will be getting an extensive look on this mode and everything else at Gamescom 2019.
