The current competitive metagame on Modern Warfare features the use of just one sub-machine gun (SMG), the MP5 It was often seen in the hands of pro players at the COD League Launch Weekend Event.
Unlike in casual Call of Duty play, Call of Duty esports almost always has a unique set of rules that restricts the use of specific weapons, attachments and perks that are deemed to be overpowered or offer some form of unfair advantage when used against an opponent.
Its great recoil control at long-range, rapid-fire rate and effectiveness at close range makes it the favourite SMG among both professional and amateur players.
In this article, find three different MP5 class setups to cater for all styles of play at the top level.
1) All-Rounder
Ideal for the vast majority of situations, this class is great for players filling the gaps for their teams.
Attachments
- FTAC Collapsible (Stock)
- Sleight of Hand (Perk)
- Stippled Grip Tape (Rear Grip)
- 10mm Auto 30-Round Mags (Ammunition)
- Merc Foregrip (Underbarrel)
This attachment combination does not require any attachments on the barrel, thanks to the extra damage and range that the 30-round magazine provides.
It is a solid mix of quick ADS speed, additional damage and low levels of recoil.
Perks
- EOD (Perk 1)
- Pointman (Perk 2)
- Battle Hardened (Perk 3)
Increased resistance to both lethal and tactical equipment is perfect for tanking grenades when pushing an objective.
Grenades
- Semtex (Lethal)
- Flash Grenade (Tactical)
The current metagame means most players are choosing between a frag grenade and Semtex as a lethal.
The Semtex seems to be the favourable choice in respawn modes, allowing players to stick the grenade to a specific place on the map.

Field Upgrades
- Dead Silence
Activate Dead Silence to navigate the map with ease, making it ideal to make a flank behind enemy lines or use it to evade an inevitable death.
Specialist Perks
- Double Time (2 Kills)
- Tune Up (4 Kills)
- Scavenger (6 Kills)
With no killstreaks in competitive Modern Warfare, selecting these three perks to offer some form of advantage is the way to go for all competitive classes.
Expect little variation between these three perks.

2) Objective
Geared for the objective players on a team, this class setup has minimal amounts of recoil, giving players an unparalleled level of control when pushing the objective.
Attachments
- Muzzle Brake (Muzzle)
- Merc Foregrip (Underbarrel)
- 10mm Auto 40-Round Mags (Ammunition)
- Stippled Grip Tape (Rear Grip)
- FTAC Collapsible (Stock)
Adding a muzzle brake further increases the recoil stability of the MP5, making it easier to take long-range gunfights when attempting to secure an area of the map.
Perks
- EOD (Perk 1)
- Pointman (Perk 2)
- Tune Up (Perk 3)
Increasing your resistance to lethal and tactical equipment is essential for an objective player. This combination is a must when playing the objective.

Grenades
- Frag Grenade (Lethal)
- Smoke Grenade (Tactical)
Selecting a frag grenade allows players to cook it, making it almost impossible to avoid being taken out by a well-timed grenade.
Smoke grenades are great to either block off a line of sight or to provide cover to an objective.
Field Upgrades
- Trophy System
When playing the objective, using the trophy system to block any enemy grenades is an integral part of setting up to capture and hold an objective.
Specialist Perks
- Double Time (2 Kills)
- Tune Up (4 Kills)
- Scavenger (6 Kills)
Expect little variation from this selection of perks to select as the specialist perks for nearly every class for competition.

3) Rushing Class
The third and final class is perfect for aggressive SMG players that love to get in the faces of their opposition.
Attachments
- FTAC Collapsible (Stock)
- Sleight of Hand (Perk)
- Stippled Grip Tape (Rear Grip)
- 10mm Auto 30-Round Mags (Ammunition)
- Merc Foregrip (Underbarrel)
Sleight of Hand is the star of this attachment combination. Having an increased reload speed means you are less likely to get caught out reloading, allowing you to spend more time slaying rather than reloading constantly.
Perks
- Double Time (Perk 1)
- Pointman (Perk 2)
- Battle Hardened (Perk 3)
Swapping out Double Time in place of EOD allows you to utilise tactical sprint for a longer period of time, enabling you to get to certain positions quicker and potentially catching an opponent off-guard with some quick movement.
Grenades
- Semtex (Lethal)
- Smoke Grenade (Tactical)
It’s personal preference as to which piece of lethal equipment that you want to use but make sure to use a smoke grenade to block off an area of the map or use it to ambush the opposition.
Field Upgrades
- Dead Silence
For a rushing class, moving around the map with silent footsteps makes it much easier to get to certain positions on the map.
Using it to flank an enemy is a great way to open up the map for a potential bomb plant or an offensive play onto a Hardpoint hill.
Specialist Perks
- EOD (2 Kills)
- Tune Up (4 Kills)
- Scavenger (6 Kills)
The only difference here is having EOD as the first perk of choice. These perks are great ways of ensuring a quicker recharge rate of field upgrades and never facing the prospect of running out of ammo.
