Nintendo has announced Mario and Luigi: Brothership, the newest entry in this acclaimed RPG series and the very first one on Switch. Unfortunately, AlphaDream won’t be working on this new game, as the company filed for bankruptcy in 2019 after their Bowser’s Inside Story remake didn’t sell well.

This new entry in the Mario and Luigi series has everything fans remember from the GBA and 3DS entries, such as different buttons to control these brothers. Much like the previous games in the series, Brothership will require players to memorize button combinations to unleash powerful attacks in these turn-based battles.

Fans who played Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door or Super Mario RPG will be somewhat familiar with the mechanics of Mario and Luigi: Brothership. Just like those two games, this unique twist on turn-based battles keeps everything lively and will make sure players are always on their toes.

While the gameplay looks like that classic formula that won over fans on the GBA and 3DS, Brothership clearly has the best visuals of the series thus far. Using an impressive cel-shaded graphics engine, Brothership could be one of the best-looking exclusives on the Switch.

Considering how we’ve already received remakes of The Thousand-Year Door and Super Mario RPG, the Switch is quickly becoming home to these Nintendo RPGs. It’s somewhat humorous to see so many of these turn-based games, since Nintendo has tried making Paper Mario into anything but a turn-based RPG during the 3DS and Wii U days. Hopefully, the company has learned their lesson, as they’re now relying on these turn-based RPGs in the Switch’s final year of relevance.

After years of not getting any news about this series, Mario and Luigi: Brothership will be coming to Switch later this year on November 7. Unfortunately, the only other game of this series on Switch is Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga on the GBA via NSO.
