Fighting game fans are in heaven as the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics was announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct. This collects the six classic fighting games that started this series and a rare beat-em-up that hasn’t been published on consoles until now.

Every game from the late ‘90s and early 2000’s will be in this collection, from X-Men: Children of the Atom to Marvel vs Capcom 2. What’s really shocking about this collection is the inclusion of The Punisher, a beat-em-up title that hasn’t been officially published in years.

Here is the full lineup of games that will be in the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics:

  • X-MEN CHILDREN OF THE ATOM
  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES
  • X-MEN VS. STREET FIGHTER
  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES vs. STREET FIGHTER
  • MARVEL vs. CAPCOM CLASH OF SUPER HEROES
  • MARVEL vs. CAPCOM 2 New Age of Heroes
  • THE PUNISHER

This is a very good collection of games, though we do wish some of the other Marvel games Capcom developed also made this list. It would have been cool if Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems and X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse made this collection as well. Granted, they aren’t “Arcade Classics,” but they would have been acceptable releases since they’re Marvel games from Capcom.

Even with that minor gripe, the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection is absolutely worth celebrating, given the series’ lack of games over the years. The last official game in this series was Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, often seen by many as a lackluster entry, despite some fun mechanics. After that, the series was seemingly shelved and the two companies decided to do their own thing.

Now that we have the Fighting Collection, all fans can do is hope this leads to an actual Marvel vs Capcom 4. Then again, fans were hoping that the Capcom Fighting Collection would lead to a new Darkstalkers game and that still hasn’t happened.

The Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection launches on Switch and other systems later this year.
