Overwatch 2 has had an odd week, with all the hype surrounding Marvel Rivals, which some say killed the game. Blizzard, however, is still pushing forward with its OG hero shooter.
Many fans were excited when it was announced that Blizzard would collaborate with Avatar Studios on a Last Airbender crossover. Blizzard has released an all-new animated sequence showing off ATLA skins for Genji, Mei, Venture, Orisa, Kiriko, and Zenyatta.
Four Nations Come to Overwatch 2
Though the unique skins may have leaked earlier last week, Overwatch 2 officially reveals the Last Airbender collaboration. So far, it looks like they have many of the principal members of Team Avatar—save for Sokka.
It would have been great to see the character models in action, but this 2-D animated trailer feels like the original series. Here’s the official description:
“Water, Earth, Fire, and Air are here in Overwatch 2 x Avatar: The Last Airbender!
“Tap into the essence of bending as you join forces with your favorite heroes from Team Avatar. Master the elements of all Four Nations, and celebrate the legacy of this extraordinary series.”
So far, the skins include Genji (Zuko), Mei (Katara), Zenyatta (Aang), Venture (Toph), Orisa (Appa), and Kiriko (Suki). It’s not clear what kind of special flourishes the skins will have in-game, but Zenyatta’s orbs look like they’re more of air balls, and he’s also seen floating around with an air scooter at his feet.
It’s also pretty neat that Venture’s drill is in the form of a badgermole, a deep-cut Avatar reference. In the series, Toph is blind and learns how to Earthbend thanks to badgermoles—considered the original earthbenders in the lore.
How to Earn the Skins
Though the skins are expected to come to the game via the shop, there is a way to earn them in-game. According to the official site, players can unlock Mei’s Katara skin by completing event challenges that will launch next week.
Not only will they be able to get a skin, but they’ll also be able to earn some Avatar-themed sprays, voice lines, and player icons. Though not every character gets a skin, some other heroes can participate in the event with some of these cheaper cosmetics. The official description continues:
“From December 17 to 30, gather your Gaang and summon the strength of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air in Overwatch 2. This collaboration honors the bonds between teammates, the resilience to overcome challenges, and the harmony we all strive for—both on and off the battlefield.”
The Overwatch 2 x Avatar: The Last Airbender event launches on Dec. 17. The game is currently available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4|5.
