Pokemon GO's August community day will feature the fish Pokemon Magikarp.
Magikarp is a water type Pokemon that debuted in Red and Blue as part of Gen 1 on the original Game Boy.
The community day will see players have a higher chance of encountering a shiny Magikarp and hopefully evolving it into shiny Gyarados.
Here's how to catch one for yourself!
When Is The Magikarp Community Day In Pokemon Go?
The new event date will take place on the 8th August 2020.
The event will take place from 11am-5pm in your local region.
How To Catch Shiny Magikarp
During the event, taking place on the 8th August between 11am-5pm, you will encounter more Magikarps in the wild.
In order to increase your chances of catching one, you will need to catch as many Magikarps as possible.
Simply keep capturing any and all Magirkarps you see until one appears. The Magikarp will not appear shiny on the game until you enter an encounter with it.
Traditionally, we recommend that you have lots of lures, find somewhere with lots of Pokestops and walk a lot. You want to increase your encounter rate as much as possible.
A shiny isn't always guaranteed and occasionally you can get lucky and encounter one on your first try.
If you're lucky enough to catch this Golden Magikarp, you can evolve it into the legendary Red Gyarados from Pokemon Gold and Silver!
Evolve Magikarp into Gyarados during the event or up to two hours afterwards to get a Pokemon that knows Aqua Tail.
