Pokemon Sword and Shield have been out for some time and those who may be thinking about picking up would be interested to know where it stacks up against Sun and Moon, as well as other games.

Diamond and Pearl/Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald

Although Sword and Shield is a fantastic game in its own rights, when compared against generation three and generation four it does not fair too well.

What Sword and Shield lack the most compared to these titles is the weak evil team you encounter throughout the Galar Region.

During the generation three/four titles, the respective evil teams were perhaps one of the best in the history of the game.

We were engaged with the story and wanted to prevent them from catching the legendary Pokemon. If Sword and Shield had an actual evil team with some sort of concrete story, it would perhaps eclipse these titles.

Fire Red/Leaf Green

This is perhaps where Sword and Shield have the strongest debate, for some die-hard Pokemon fans the generation one titles are without a doubt the best ever created.

Although these games are fantastic, the nostalgia aspect alone has given Fire Red and Leaf Green too much credit.

For now, Sword and Shield rank below these titles, it is too early to move it above the pillars of the Pokemon series.

Other Pokemon Titles

Sword and Shield make a formidable case to place perfectly as the fourth or fifth best Pokemon title of all time. It is well beyond X/Y and Black/White, which is viewed by many as the dark days in the Pokemon series.

We place it above Sun/Moon and the generation two titles, purely due to the gameplay components and features within Sword and Shield

Of course, this comes along with it being the most recently released title, nostalgia may be something that people get caught up in with older titles, however, Silver and Gold are a cut above the rest in terms of content.
