Few could deny Red Dead Redemption 2's success was last generation. Released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, it didn't reach the lofty heights of Rockstar's other big game, Grand Theft Auto V, but this latest adventure in the declining Wild West saw 38 million sales.
Understandably, fans are eager to learn if a sequel's on the way and while we've heard some rumblings about the franchise's future, nothing's been confirmed. For now though, here's everything we know about a potential Red Dead Redemption 3.

During the recent Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference, Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive - Rockstar's parent company - was asked about the publisher's core franchises.
As spotted (and transcribed) by VGC, Zelnick confirmed that Take-Two does plan to launch future Red Dead Redemption titles, meaning Red Dead Redemption 3 is likely one of them. Unsurprisingly, further details weren't elaborated on, but we'll likely be waiting some time before getting news.
Setting
Given how Red Dead Redemption looks at the declining Wild West, it's unlikely that a new entry would take place after RDR1 or RDR2. At this time, we'd speculate Rockstar would look towards another prequel entry, though that remains unconfirmed.
Release Date
As Red Dead Redemption 3 remains unconfirmed, we don't have any news on a potential release date. Rockstar are believed to be working on Grand Theft Auto VI, so chances are that if RDR3's in development, it won't launch until after that.
Platforms
Nothing's been confirmed but given how Red Dead Redemption 3 likely won't launch for several years at the earliest, that's unsurprising. At this time, we'd speculate a PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC release are viable.
Given how the Nintendo Switch is currently halfway through its lifecycle, a successor console could potentially home RDR3 too. While Rockstar's often avoided Nintendo platforms, Grand Theft Auto Trilogy finally brought the series to Switch, so we wouldn't rule it out.
