Leaked documents from a confirmed ransomware attack against Insomniac might have spoiled a possible Spider-Verse game in the works.
The hacker group known as Rhysidia got ahold of screenshots and scripts pertaining to Wolverine, a new title under the Marvel umbrella developed by Insomniac, who became a household name in the gaming industry following the massive success of their Spider-Man series.
On top of Wolverine leaks and sensitive information about Insomniac employees, content about upcoming projects was also spotted. According to Insider Gaming (via Reddit), the Ratchet and Clank devs are working on three new games besides Wolverine: RCE, Spider-Man 3, and Spider-Verse.
Earlier this year, developer Erin Eberhardt mentioned she was working as a project lead in an unannounced AAA title. If we go back a couple of years, Insomniac posted a job listing looking for a systems designer focused on multiplayer in 2021.
If we put two and two together we can assume the Spider-Verse leaked title could absolutely be a multiplayer-focused entry in the Spider-Man universe built by Insomniac.
In fact, Spider-Man 2 could already have a hint at this. Slight spoilers follow - one of the game's sidequests features collecting dozens of Spider-Bots from different universes.
Once you gather them all, Delilah, a bartender who was set to appear in the Across the Spider-Verse movie (she got cut from the theatrical release) opens up a portal to Insomniac's New York and takes all the Spider-Bots, referencing Miguel O'Hara as a parting easter egg for fans.
Insomniac's Peter Parker has made a quick appearance in the Spider-Verse films as well, so the connection has been established on both sides of the spectrum.
Of course, this is all mere speculation at this point, but Insomniac is not one to drop a random easter egg and not follow up on it. Still, we recommend you remain cautious and don't get your hopes up until we get more concrete information.
