Since launching alongside Warzone Pacific, Activision’s Ricochet anti-cheat has drastically reduced the number of cheaters appearing across the Call of Duty franchise. Over the past five seasons, the anti-cheat continues to evolve.

As attention turns towards the launch of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, Ricochet will activate as soon as Modern Warfare 2 releases much to the delight of players that continue to run into hackers over the course of a match.

With two new titles right around the corner, Activision shares its plans to combat cheaters and how it intends to keep the number of hackers at an all-time low.

Call of Duty anti-cheat improvements

In a recent blog post, the team behind Ricochet confirmed the anti-cheat will feature in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 as soon as the servers are switched on.

Additionally, the anti-cheat will provide “more protection such as better detection capabilities, additional access to develop and deploy new mitigation techniques” to stop cheaters from slipping through the net.

Another area of concern involves the requirement of a phone number to play Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 on PC. Activision says it’s the same policy as the first Warzone title and stops hackers from creating a new account once they receive a ban.

The developers also revealed that a small section of Ricochet was active during the Modern Warfare 2 beta weekends. Although the anti-cheat wasn’t working at full capacity, the Ricochet progress report states that 20k accounts fell victim to the ban hammer across the two weekends while another 60k accounts received a ban before it started.

With plenty of improvements arriving for Call of Duty’s anti-cheat measures, there’s a high chance the number of cheaters will continue to decline. This is great news for those growing tired of trying to defeat players with wall hacks and even better for content creators constantly accused of cheating.
