Animal Crossing: New Horizons new Halloween update for the Fall season is now live.
It's introduced many new features, costumes and furniture to the game, but one main cornerstone is the addition of pumpkins.
These small bundles of joy are incredibly important and to help you get started we've pulled together this guide.
We'll explain how to get pumpkin starts to grow your own, what to do with these pumpkins - including info on the pumpkin DIY recipes - and the difference between the various pumpkin types.
How To Get Pumpkin Starts?
Pumpkin Starts are important for growing pumpkins on your island. You can buy Pumpkin Starts from Nook's Cranny or from Leif. However, there is a big difference in price.
Pumpkin Starts cost 280 bells from Nook's Cranny. Whilst Leif only charges 140 bells.
So obviously, buy as many as possible from Leif to save yourself some money.
It's also possible to get Pumpkins from Jack. But you need to trade Halloween Candy in order to do so.
Whilst this is an easy option, we'd recommend holding onto that Candy for more important things. Like, spending candy on those Spooky Furniture recipes.
How To Grow Pumpkins in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Once you've got your Pumpkin Starts, it's time to start growing!
Players don't need to move heaven or earth to grow pumpkins, its relatively simple and very much like growing flowers.
First, plant the seed and start watering. The more you water, the more pumpkins grown.
So if you don't water, you'll grow 1. Water once, you'll grow 2 and water twice you'll grow 3 pumpins.
Simple. Easy. Worth it.
Just be mindful that it will take you four days to grow a pumpkin on your patch.
After you've picked your Pumpkin, a new one will start to grow back in roughly two days.
Although, be mindful that the color of the pumpkin is unlikely to change and you'll need to water it again to ensure you grow more.
Pumpkin Types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
The Fall update has brought us not one, not two but FOUR different types of pumpkins to grow.
Players will be able to grow yellow, white, green, and of course the best of the lot, orange.
Which one grows is completely random.
That said, these pumpkins were not made equal.
Recipes for Halloween spooky furniture will require the orange pumpkins. But color pumpkins will be used exclusively to add different colour customisations to your furniture.
So generally speaking, for now, you want to try and grow as many orange pumpkins as possible.
How To Use Pumpkins in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
As mentioned, players can use pumpkins to craft new spooky furniture and items.
The spooky item and furniture DIY recipes can be acquired by giving candies to villagers on Halloween Night.
So for now, you're simply stockpiling the pumpkins for use in the future.
You could choose to purchase some of this spooky furniture from Nook's Cranny throughout October.
But the product changes daily and will obviously cost a lot of bells.
So it might be better to stock up on Pumpkins and craft the items yourself when you have the DIY recipes.
LOOKING FORWARD
Though the Halloween festivities have only just started players can already look forward to more events in the future.
At the tail end of the Halloween trailer, Nintendo promised that more free updates were coming later this year for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
So don't be glum if Halloween isn't your thing. There are more celebratory events on the horizon.
