It looks like SEGA is planning to give their gamers some unique gifts with a brand-new service. The company has announced SEGA Account, a new online service that gives players exclusive benefits for simply signing up. At the time of writing, it looks like there’s no negative for having signed up and fans can try it with little consequence.
Based on the website’s official announcement, this is a service where players will be able to link their various gaming accounts and get cool bonuses. One of them is a bonus for the upcoming Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, giving lead character Goro Majima a new outfit. This is something that a lot of fans are going to enjoy, though it’s not a huge necessity for players.
Fans familiar with SEGA may have seen this coming. The company has been asking fans to sign up for their newsletter to get exclusive benefits before. Most of them were just cosmetic bonuses for Sonic games, though PC fans were able to get Nights into Dreams for free, which was a nice surprise.
While the SEGA Account is appealing, there’s definitely some fear in the fact that this might limit or lock out gamers from playing certain titles. Many gamers are still upset at Sony for locking out access to titles like Helldivers 2 and the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to countries that don’t have PlayStation Network.
Luckily, SEGA isn’t in the console race anymore, so we doubt that they will be locking anyone out of playing any games. Even if they insist on exclusive cosmetics for their offline single-player titles, that’s far from the worst thing they can do.
That’s everything we know about the new SEGA account, which players can sign up for now. For similar ventures, read up about EA closing their Origin launcher. You can also read about how the Sonic 3 movie might have been split up.
