Patch Notes

The patch notes for Apex Legends Season 7 are live!

New Map: Olympus

The Legends have entered a new arena: the sky city of Olympus.

A utopia floating in clouds above Psamathe, it was once a place where the brightest minds in the Outlands could gather and exchange ideas.

However, an accident in an experimental research facility led to the creation of the Phase Rift (a massive bubble of Phase energy), and the city was abandoned.

New Legend: Horizon

She’s the newest Legend, a brilliant scientist, and a master of gravity manipulation.

She has a deep connection to the new arena and motivation that will tug at your heartstrings.

Horizon’s custom spacesuit allows her to fall from great heights and control her movements in the air.

Using her custom technology, she can use gravity lifts to give her team a vertical boost, and she can even deploy NEWT (her small robot named after her son, Newton) to drop a micro black hole that pulls opponents into the center for some serious crowd control.

New Vehicle: The Trident

Exclusive to Olympus, the Trident is a hovercar designed for your whole squad.

Quality Of Life Changes

  • Attachment Swap Improvements
    • When replacing an attachment with one from the ground, if the old attachment is an improvement for your other weapon, the old attachment will get automatically transferred.
  • Replicator Updates
    • Removed weapons from the crafting pool and have replaced them with Shield batteries. The high-level attachments will still be tailored towards a weapon category.
    • Now prevent other players from picking up items that you crafted for the first 5 seconds after crafting. This can be disabled by pinging the item.
  • Air Drop Clarity
  • Misc
    • The Arc Star now shows an Arc Star model when one is thrown near you, instead of a grenade.
    • Added a new VO line when you are using a Phoenix Kit
    • Added a new VO line when you drop a Holo Spray
    • You can now ping ammo in your inventory to request more from your squad
    • Made modifications to The Ring to reduce the amount of unplayable space in the circles.

Map Rotations

  • Regular Rotation
    • For 2 weeks, Olympus will be the only map you can play on. After that week we go into a normal rotation between Olympus and World’s Edge. We will be vaulting Kings Canyon for the time being.
  • Season 7 Ranked Rotation
    • The first half of Ranked Split will be played on Olympus. The second half of ranked will be played on World’s Edge.

Legend Changes

  • Bangalore
    • Rolling Thunder: Reduced the time it takes for explosion from 8 seconds to 6 seconds.
  • Caustic
    • Nox Gas Trap/Nox Gas Grenade: Legends no longer get a blurred vision effect while in the gas. Damage updated from 4-10 ticks of damage to 6-12 ticks of damage.
  • Mirage
    • Psyche Out/Life of the Party: Decoys now have 45 health
  • Octane
    • Swift Mend: Doubled healing rate (from 0.5 hp/s to 1.0 hp/s)
  • Wattson
    • Perimeter Security: Increased damage per touch from 10 to 15.
  • Loba
    • Black Market: Ammo taken no longer counts towards Black Market’s maximum. You can scoop up all the ammo in range.
  • Rampart
    • Sheila: Now takes 1.25 seconds to fully spin up, down from 2 seconds.
    • Amped Wall: Now takes 3 seconds to fully build, down from 4 seconds.
  • Pathfinder
    • Hitbox: Adjusting the size to make it a little easier to hit Pathfinder.
    • Grappling Hook
      • Pathfinder no longer needs to be on the ground for Grappling Hook to be considered finished.
      • The speed to which Pathfinder needs to drop for us to consider Grappling Hook finished was increased from 300 units/second to 500 units/second
      • The maximum cooldown grapple can be set to was lowered to 30 seconds, from 35 seconds; the maximum amount of travel time before a new cooldown is set is now 5 seconds, rather than being uncapped. This means that effectively, you can never incur more than a 35-second cooldown.
      • The amount of distance you can travel before you hit maximum cooldown was roughly doubled.

Weapon Changes

  • Supply Drop
    • The R99 will be returning to the normal loot pool this season
      • Damage: 12 -> 11 (from Care Package version to normal pre-season 6)
      • Ammo 20/22/24/27
    • Prowler being added to Supply Drop
      • Magazine size: 35; reserve ammo: 175
  • Fully Kitted Weapons
    • Removed: Devotion, Mastiff, Triple Take, Flatline, Volt
    • New: Wingman, Sentinel, Havoc, G7, Alternator
  • Hemlok
    • Increasing horizontal recoil of the first 3 shots slightly to the right (first burst when in burst mode)
    • Increasing recoil magnitude in the later stages of the pattern
    • Reducing recoil multiplier in single fire mode to help compensate for additional recoil in pattern. Recoil should mostly be increased in burst mode rather than single fire mode
    • Reducing headshot multiplier 2.0 -> 1.75 (44 -> 39 damage headshot against no helmet base character)
  • Havoc
    • Updated recoil pattern. Kicks up, then right, then left, then up again.
  • L-Star
    • LSTAR has a new recoil pattern that kicks horizontally at first and then settles into a relatively consistent upward recoil. Players who feather the trigger will be able to keep the LSTAR in the good portion of the recoil pattern.
    • LSTAR venting time after letting go of the trigger has been reduced 0.4s -> 0.15s.
    • LSTAR will now reduce heat faster when not overheated -- 1.15s from 99.9% to 0% charge if not overheated, still 2.45s if overheated.
  • Sentinel
    • Energized Sentinel now has a pure damage increase, instead of bonus damage only vs shields
    • Energized Sentinel base damage 70 -> 88
  • Triple Take
    • Fire rate 1.3 -> 1.2
  • Hop-Ups
    • Quickdraw Holster Hop-up: This new hop-up attaches to the RE-45 and Wingman. When equipped, the gun becomes quicker to raise and lower, takes less time to ADS, and has reduced hipfire spread (particularly when not actively moving). This should open up new opportunities to use the two weapons, especially in close-quarters combat.
    • The Selectfire Receiver hop-up will be removed from the loot pool to make room.

Gameplay Changes

  • Evo Armor - We increased the requirements to evolve Evo Armor in order to reduce the amount of players with Red Evo Armor during the end game.
    • Level 0 -> 1 : 100 damage (from 50)
    • Level 1 -> 2 : 150 damage (from 125)
    • Level 2 -> 3 : 300 damage (from 250)
    • Level 3 -> 4 : 750 damage (from 500)
  • Ring damage reduced
    • Ring 1: 2% per tick (same)
    • Ring 2: 3% per tick (from 5%)
    • Ring 3: 5% per tick (from 10%)
    • Ring 4: 10% per tick (from 20%)
    • Ring 5: 10% per tick (from 20%)
    • Ring 6: 15% per tick (from 25%)
    • Ring 7: 15% per tick (from 25%)

  • Rampart
    • Fixed an issue with Rampart not being able to place an amp wall while jumping.
    • Fixed an issue with Sheila teleporting when placed on a hatch in World’s Edge Staging.

New Legend - Horizon

A new legend is synonymous with a new season and there are a number of contenders competing for the coveted position in Season 7.

Right now it seems that Horizon will be the next legend to land in the Apex games.

In Season 6 players have to complete challenges which unlock three videos made by the Scot, you can read more about that by clicking here.

Some believe Valk is also Horizon, though a leak showing future legends shows both Horizon AND Valk on the same screen, meaning this is unlikely.

expand image

Horizon was introduced to the Apex universe in-game as a video where she says "See ya real soon, darlins".

She goes on to say at the end of the videos, “All that data you’ve provided us will come in handy… when we face ya in the Games”.

Here are her abilities:

  • Passive - Spacewalk: Increase air control and reduce fall impacts with Horizon’s custom spacesuit.
  • Tactical - Gravity Lift: Reverse the flow of gravity, lifting players upward and boosting them outward when they exit.
  • Ultimate - Black Hole: Deploy NEWT to create a micro black hole that sucks in nearby Legends.

New Weapons

So what new toys await us in Season 7? It's unknown if a new weapon will even arrive as Respawn has been inconsistent in providing a new weapon every season.

Season 6 finally brought in the long-anticipated VOLT SMG, which was anticipated to arrive back in Season 4.

Predator

When the Season 6 update going live, new audio files were added for a Predator weapon.

There are some theories on what this mysterious weapon could be. Plenty of people are claiming they have already seen it in the Season 6 dev stream.

Players are also theorising that the weapon may be the bow that was spotted a few weeks before release.

Apex Legends borrows plenty of weapons and ideas from the Titanfall franchise and it wouldn't be a surprise for this weapon to be a reference to the Predator Cannon in Titanfall 2.

The Predator Cannon is a rotary cannon manufactured by Lastimosa Armory employed by the Titan Legion in Titanfall 2.

Before firing, it requires a short "spin-up" time before it fires. The weapon can be used both a short and long-range, with a considerable amount of zoom being applied when aiming down sights.

When using it in long-range mode, players will deplete their magazine twice as fast, since every shot consumes two bullets. This requires careful players to manage the use of long and short-range modes for maximum benefit.

Considering the above audio files, those listed with the terms "secondshot" could imply the above factor.

The new "shelldrops" audio may suggest that it is a shotgun rather than a rifle or automatic weapon.

It is possible that the Predator is derived from the 'Avenger', a Gatling Gun weapon cut from the original Titanfall, potentially meaning that Predator is a placeholder name.

C.A.R.

The C.A.R. also received new audio files in Season 6.

We are a bit more informed on this weapon as it is a direct lift from Titanfall.

First discovered in November 2019, this new weapon boasts "consistent recoil" meaning it could be a great starting weapon when dropping into World's Edge.

If you're familiar with this gun from Titanfall, it's a Pilot anti-personnel fully automatic submachine gun.

Its strengths are its high rate of fire and dampened recoil - making it accurate at intermediate ranges. However, it is naturally outclassed at long ranges by rifles and will likely be inferior to the already existing R-99 (R-97 in Titanfall).

It was met with mixed reactions as players didn't particularly see where it would fit into the meta and how it would compete with existing guns.

It's tough to see this weapon implemented after Season 6 already introduced a new SMG, even if the VOLT uses energy ammunition, but it's nice to see that there's plenty still to come for the future of Apex.

How Much Will the Season 7 Battle Pass Cost?

So far, every Battle Pass has cost 950 Apex Coins, so we assume that the Season 6 Battle Pass will cost the same, which would mean purchasing 1,000 coins from the store.

However, if you bought the Season 6 Battle Pass and don't spend any of the currency that you get when levelling, you'll most likely have enough to purchase the upcoming battle pass without spending any real money.

The premium battle pass contains 4,700 Apex Coins.

If you want to get a head start on the competition, you can buy the Battle Pass Bundle for 2,800 Apex Coins which will help you skip 25 levels off the bat.

If you don't feel like spending any money, there is a free battle pass, but it will contain far fewer rewards.

Battle Pass Rewards

On Wednesday, Respawn uploaded a new trailer showing off the battle pass from Apex Season 7 — “Ascension” — which introduces a new playable Legend as well as the Olympus map to the game.

“Immediately unlock the Legendary Prowler Polished Perfection when you pick up the Battle Pass, along with three new Legend skins,” the game’s official website says.

“Battle through the remaining 100 levels to earn the rest of the rewards, including Legendary items like the High Class Wraith, Fast Fashion Octane, and the Reactive Cutting Edge R99.”

The new skins look great; Olympus looks gorgeous. This seems like a perfect time for lapsed players to jump back into the game.

Challenges are no longer points-based and are now granted between 1 to 5 stars, depending on their difficulty.

Collecting 10 stars will take you to the next Battle Pass level.

Tabs have been added to the challenges menu in the lobby that allow you to toggle between daily, top weekly, and event challenges.

There are new challenge objectives and rewards to create a more varied and rewarding experience:

  • There are no more recurring Weekly Challenges, but those rewards have been rolled into the revamped Daily Challenges.
  • Unique Weekly Challenges can still be completed at any time during the season. They are very similar in terms of objectives and rewards, but difficulty is now more consistent.
  • The XP Challenge now awards 1 star for each 10,000XP earned. The premium Battle Pass boosts now increase progress by up to 50% by boosting how much XP gets counted for the challenge. The boosts do not increase the underlying XP gains.

New Map And Map Changes

Last season we received a big update to World's Edge - World's Edge became World's Edge Fortified.

This season we will be heading to Olympus for Season 7.

Not only does it taken on a more metropolitan feel, but this cloud-based cityscape will include a new ‘Trident’ vehicle to traverse around in.

Ranked Season 7

Season 6 of ranked will come to an end when the new season begins.

Here are the rewards you'll get for competing in the past season of ranked play.

expand image

In Season 7 of ranked, players will be competing on Olympus for the first split and World's Edge for the second.

The first split will finish on the 15th December 2020.

Now that crossplay is launched, console players that are opted into crossplay will matchmake against all other console players. Everyone in the pool is still sorted by total RP count as usual. This increased player population should help keep matchmaking times short.

For Master and Apex Predator players, playing Ranked matches will earn you RP for your current platform, e.g. if you are a PS4 Apex Predator playing with PC friends, the RP you score count toward your rank only on PS4, even though there are PC players in the matches with you.

Season 8

On April 6th Design Director Jason McCord stated on Twitter that the team was already at that time working on Season 5, 6, 7 and 8!

“We're always bringing in stuff from the Titanfall universe,” Apex game director Chad Grenier and general manager Dusty Welch said in an interview with Game Informer.

“We built an awesome world in Titanfall and want to make sure we're bringing that forward,” they explained.

“I will say this - there could be a pleasant surprise for Titanfall fans in Season 5.” We haven't seen any Titanfall content in Season 5 so far, Respawn may have pushed this back to Season 6.

And for a fun anecdote, we are literally testing content for Season 5, 6, 7 and 8 regularly. We have LOTS coming, and aren't going anywhere.
— Jason McCord (@MonsterclipRSPN)
April 6, 2020

Anything that doesn't arrive in the next season will likely be pushed into Season 8. Respawn is always pushing new material to the game, but with the team working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, they're likely going to utilise existing assets rather than making new ones.
