Assassin’s Creed remakes are coming from Ubisoft, as the company has plans to reintroduce these settings to a new generation of players. While there is definitely potential in remakes for these games, especially the first one, this goes to show that Ubisoft is running out of ideas.
Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, revealed on the company’s blog post that there are indeed plans to remake some of the earlier titles in this series. Guillemot didn’t say which games would be getting remade, but the CEO does say they will be more modernized for current gamers.
“Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich,” Guillemot said.
It will be interesting to see which games in the Assassin’s Creed series will be getting a remake, though there are some easy candidates on which should get one. The first game is in bad need of a remake, since it was fairly clunky to play with, especially after its sequel beat it in every way.
Previous rumors have said that the fourth game, Black Flag, will be getting a remake in the near future. Some would argue this installment shouldn’t get a remake since it still looks and plays well, but the changes should be interesting. At the least, Ubisoft would get something out of their current Skull & Bones graphics engine.
Remakes are nothing new in the gaming industry and Assassin’s Creed joining this trend is far from surprising. Games like The Last of Us already have remakes on PS5 and they aren’t even that old. Ubisoft is also working on a Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, which is coming out in 2026.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the latest title in this series and will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series, and PC on November 12.
