It seems like years since the Assassin's Creed series last prioritized the titular Assassin's element. Mirage, released last year, took a significant step toward returning the series to its roots, but the idea of a mainline entry focusing on stealth once more seemed unlikely.

However, the new Assassin's Creed Shadows reveal trailer not only unveiled the Assassin's Creed Shadows release date, but also highlighted the beloved stealth of the series' earlier entries.

The reveal trailer confirmed that one of the main characters is Yasuke, the first black samurai and historical figure, who had been leaked ahead of the reveal trailer. The other protagonist, a Shinobi named Naoe, takes the lead as the stealthy assassin type, while Yasuke delivers some brutal and up-close kills during the reveal.

While Yasuke looks incredibly fitting in the trailer, the real highlight comes from Naoe. During the reveal, Naoe utilizes tools to grapple up to the top of a fortress wall, surprising multiple enemies and dispatching them quickly and efficiently with minimal retaliation. It provides an excellent glimpse of the potential stealth elements in the upcoming game. She also emerges as a looming threat alongside Yasuke in the final scene of the trailer.

In a press release for the game's unveiling, Ubisoft confirms that the two characters offer complementary playstyles. Each character has their own progression paths, weapons, skills, and more, with Naoe's stealthy prowess or Yasuke's combat talent taking center stage.

Ubisoft has confirmed the leaked release date of Assassin's Creed Shadows as November 15, 2024. However, players who pre-order the expensive Ultimate Edition or subscribe to Ubisoft+ can gain three days of early access.

Assassin's Creed Shadows releases on November 15, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
