Astro Bot continues to wow players with its inventive platforming gameplay after its release two weeks ago.

Players were surprised to see the return of iconic franchises making brief cameos in special themed levels. Among them was Sony Santa Monica’s God Of War: Ragnarok, in which we see Astro taking Kratos’ Leviathan Axe.

How to Unlock the LocoRoco Level

Players must finish the previous galaxies to unlock the LocoRoco level and enter the fourth playable location. This is after taking down the Gorilla (Mighty Chewy), Wako Tako (Octopus), and the Snake (Lady Venomara) bosses. This is not an easy feat; you must defeat these powerful foes before entering the Camo Cosmos location.

You will know you can successfully unlock the level after taking down the __ boss and rescuing the cute blobs. This takes you to a unique themed level similar to Ape Escape and God of War. This time, it’s for the beloved LocoRoco level.

What to Expect in the Level

Entering this level with knowledge of the original game will bring in a surge of nostalgia. This is further elevated with the return of its rich and familiar soundtrack sung in gibberish by the blobs.

The way they handled the camera work makes this level even more memorable. Along the way, you notice that it switches from 3D to 2D perspective, bringing back the classic shift in perspective that was once part of the PlayStation Portable original.

Using the DualSense’s motion controls, you can lead the colorful blobs in a direction that depends on their tilt. This is pretty much like the PlayStation Portable version but with bigger and better graphics.

In this level, you can press the right trigger to separate into smaller blobs. This is ideal for getting past narrow crevices that hide secret Bots and puzzles. Pressing the right trigger again will gather all the tiny blobs together, transforming them into a big blob capable of destroying cracked walls.

Apart from the colored blobs as Bots, you can also meet familiar faces from the original, such as the moving floors with faces singing the theme song.

This lighthearted level is an homage to the once iconic franchise by Japan Studio's developers. It is a shame we don’t see the series return as a full video game, but maybe we might get one soon for the PlayStation 5 Pro or the rumored PlayStation handheld.

History of LocoRoco

Gamers were ecstatic to see the unexpected LocoRoco level. One is a one-of-a-kind physics-based platformer that graced the PlayStation Portable in 2006. Due to its quirky gameplay and adorable music, it was met with positive acclaim. As a result, it was followed by a series of sequels and a remastered version of the first game for PlayStation 4.
