A Na'vi in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Ubisoft's newest open-world title tasks you with taking on the sprawling alien world of the Na'vi, attempting to rid it of the invading RDA, and restoring it to its glory. As you progress, you’ll have a bunch of abilities to unlock through a skill tree, enhancing the abilities of your very own Na’vi, and hopefully reaching the peak of your powers.

With this comes the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora skill tree and progression system, which we’ll be breaking down for you here, so we can you how it works and what is on offer for you to upgrade. This should help you choose which route to specialise in and how you go about claiming the top skills.

We’ve also written up more guides to help you on your Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora adventure, including how to play multiplayer, how to upgrade weapons, and how to heal. You can also check out our Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora review to see what we thought about the game!

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora skill tree and progression system explained

When you first start Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, you begin your adventure as a Na’vi, with some pretty impressive abilities straight out of the gate. However, there are a bunch more to unlock, and these are acquired through various skill trees that can be accessed via the menu under the Skills tab.

These skills are broken down into five distinct areas - Survivor, Warrior, Hunter, Maker, and Rider each providing different buffs. The first four are accessible when you first get into the game, but the Rider tree can only be unlocked when you get your hands on the Ikran.

You can head down different paths within each skill tree, but to progress down these branches, you have to unlock the prior skill to make an inroad. The number of skill points required per skill increases as you progress too so keep that in mind before trying to max out a tree.

Once you ‘complete’ a skill tree, you’ll have the chance to acquire a final skill known as an Apex Memory, which is a far more potent ability. One example of this is Second Wind, an ability which gives you the chance to revive yourself once downed and get right back in the action.

To get your hands on the all-important skill points needed to progress the various skill trees, you will have to complete quests as well as locate Tarsyu Saplings which are scattered throughout the map. So, get exploring Pandora as soon as you can!

There is also a completely separate set of skills called Ancestor Skills but these are not tied to skill points or progression and are instead acquired through finding fully grown Tarsyu instead of just the sapling.

Overall, the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora skills system is surprisingly in-depth and something that definitely rewards exploration. We’d recommend pumping a few points into the Survivor and Warrior trees to gain buffs in health and damage output, which will certainly make some early quest progression that little bit easier.
