If you played Baldur's Gate 3 during its long early access period on Steam, then you know that the game didn't have controller support. But, Larian Studios confirmed to a user on Reddit via DMs that controller support for the game would be available on day one.
This is incredibly useful for players who have various disabilities or prefer the use of a controller.

It has been confirmed that controller support is available for online and local co-op multiplayer gameplay. While online co-op does not limit players to using the same peripheral during gameplay, this is different for local co-op split-screen gameplay. Players will be forced to play with two controllers.
What's the best controller for Baldur's Gate on PC?
This one comes down to personal preference. For ease of use, you're probably going to want to go with a Steam controller or an Xbox controller for that plug-and-play functionality. But you can also use a PlayStation controller, as well as various third-party gamepads from companies like Scuf if you happen to have one.
