The Gomorrah Demon Slave in Bayonetta 3

After its special appearance in Bayonetta 2, players are wondering whether there is a Bayonetta 3 Chain Chomp easter egg. Does the beloved Mario enemy make a return as a weapon to defeat Homunculi?

It's no secret that Nintendo loves a good crossover between its titles. Just look at the Animal Crossing items of old, and the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening setting having Chain Chomps, too! Previously, there was a crossover between Bayonetta and other Nintendo IP, so it isn't too unheard of for it to return in the latest instalment. Read on to see if it is likely.

What is the Bayonetta 3 Chain Chomp?

The Chain Chomp, of Super Mario fame, is a weapon that featured in Bayonetta 2. The Chain Chomps in the Mario games are a ball-and-chain shaped enemy that is either tethered and will lunge at the player, or are let loose and give chase. However, it has yet to appear in Bayonetta 3.

But what did this enemy-turned-weapon do? It remains the only weapon only equippable in the feet slot, and cannot be used by hand. It dealt hefty damage, had a high push-back rate, and was used to do wide swings of each arena. The Chomp was a little slow to use due to its size. However, it was the strongest foot weapon that Bayonetta could use.

How do I get the Bayonetta 3 Chain Chomp?

For now, it remains unclear if there is a way to get the Chain Chomp weapon in Bayonetta 3. Let's take a look at the convoluted way to get the Chain Chomp in Bayonetta 2, to see if we can follow the same steps.

To get your hands, or feet, on a Chain Chomp, you needed to complete the main story chapters in the 3rd Climax difficulty, in order to obtain a record item named Angelic Hymns Gold LP: Super Mario 64.

You then had to take this to Rodin, who would use it to create the Chain Chomp weapon. It was also available for 1 million Halos at its door. This was located in Chapter One, after Verse Four. The Chomp's door was at the end of a bridge. The code to bring up the purchasing option was up, down, up, right, left, X, B, Y, and A.

Those who purchased Bayonetta 2 on the Switch had it a lot easier, however. If you had a Bowser, Boo, Koopa Troopa, or Bowser Jr Amiibo, you could scan it to unlock the Chomp without any of that effort.

Is the Chain Chomp in Bayonetta 3?

The return of the Chain Chomp, or any Mario mash-ups for that matter, remains unconfirmed and quite unlikely in Bayonetta 3. There doesn't appear to be any Amiibo figure functionality within the game, even with the Bayonetta figure itself.

This follows on from recent Nintendo titles not having any, or only basic, collaborative items, like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Compared to the previous title, New Leaf, the 2020 game got a fraction of the Nintendo-branded items players expected.
