According to reports, Microsoft may release their highly anticipated Indiana Jones game later this year, in what could become one of their flagship titles in 2024.
This information comes via Insider Gaming, which reports that according to a source, the Indiana Jones game, which was first teased in 2021, will see the light of day at some point in 2024.
The game will be published by Bethesda but is being developed by MachineGames, whose expertise fully focuses on first-person shooters. They've worked exclusively on Wolfenstein and Quake titles since 2014, raising questions about what type of game their version of Indiana Jones will look like.
Luckily, fans won't have to wait too long as Microsoft has confirmed the Indiana Jones game will make an appearance at the upcoming Developer Direct showcase scheduled for January 18.
According to Microsoft, MachineGames will show over 10 minutes of Indy gameplay while giving some insights into the game's development, which has been described as an action-adventure title.
We'll learn more about the game's story, how fans will be able to control the intrepid archaeologist, and the first look at a proper gameplay trailer. The Developer Direct will also see games like Awoved and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II get some love, so if you want everything you need to know about the event, we recommend you check our guide.
It'll be interesting to see if Indiana Jones makes its alleged 2024 release date, especially after 2023 saw Xbox severely lacking in first-party titles. Hi-Fi Rush was a sleeper hit for the company, but the response to Starfield was lukewarm when compared to the rave reviews that exclusives like Spider-Man 2 and Tears of the Kingdom, available on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch respectively, have received.
Funnily enough, the Tango Gameworks rhythm action game is seemingly coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, making the need for strong Xbox exclusives more urgent for Microsoft unless they're looking to go the way of SEGA, which for all intents and purposes, seems to be their long-term plan.
