Marvel games have been a bit of a mixed bag in recent years, with high points like Marvel’s Spider Man being counterbalanced by relative flops like Marvel’s Avengers.
However, now it seems we could be in line to receive a game adaptation of a very popular series that hasn’t yet made the transition from big screen to small screen.
This is according to VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb, who has claimed that a game based on the Black Panther movies is in the works.

Speaking on his Game Mess Mornings show for Giant Bomb, Grubb said: “it is a single-player game, it is in very early development and the game starts with Black Panther being dead and the player is going to take on the challenges of becoming the new Black Panther.”
Grubb continued: “It is very likely being produced by the new Seattle studio that was founded by Monolith Productions vice president and studio head Kevin Stephens, so yes, this is an EA published game.”
He also suggested that the game, currently codenamed Project Rainier, will be aiming to replicate the success of the Black Panther films, the first of which grossed around $1.3 billion worldwide.
Going into more detail on the studio which is being tasked with delivering this kind of massive success, Grubb said: “they’re a new studio, but with a lineage that goes back to those Middle Earth games (2017’s Shadow of War and 2014’s Shadow of Mordor) that people were very fond of.”
Grubb also suggested the game will likely be large in scope, with an open world and discussed how surprising it is that the game isn’t being produced by a Sony-affiliated studio, with the publisher having been associated with several recent Marvel releases including Marvel’s Spider Man, which it announced as coming to PC during last month’s State of Play presentation.
