Although the attention of the Call of Duty community is still firmly fixed on Black Ops Cold War and its post-launch plans, the rumours surrounding the 2021 release of Call of Duty are continuing to emerge.
In recent weeks, several rumours surrounding the setting of COD 2021 have emerged, some of which are suggesting that the popular first-person shooter franchise could be heading to the 1950s for the very first time.
Since the rumour of COD 2021 being set in the 1950s, another leaker has come forward with information that suggests that the franchise will be returning to a very familiar period of history.
Is there a chance COD 2021 will be set in World War 2 again?

COD 2021 Setting
On February 16th, popular Call of Duty leaker @ModernWarzone posted a Tweet revealing that the next instalment in the franchise would be set in the 1950s. The post was swiftly deleted, implying that the leaker may have been onto something.
A 1950s setting for Call of Duty would certainly be an interesting one. The Korean War began in the 1950s and saw American forces enter Korea in a bid to halt the communist movement sweeping across southeast Asia
It’s also a setting that the Call of Duty franchise has never featured in, making it an ideal setting for a brand-new single-player campaign alongside a multiplayer that could mark the return to simple gameplay that fans have been craving for since the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Back To World War 2?
Contrary to the 1950s rumour, another leaker has stepped forward to suggest that COD 2021 will in fact be set in World War 2 once again.
Leaker @Victor__Z has proved to be an accurate source of information in the past.
Prior to the release of Black Ops Cold War, he correctly revealed that the first reveal trailer would include a brief preview of multiplayer.
With him coming forward by posting the cover art for 2017s World War 2 alongside the hammer emoji, could Sledgehammer Games be making another Call of Duty title set in the Second World War?
Of course, leaks should always be taken with a pinch of salt, but with different sources reporting different information, it could be very interesting to see what Sledgehammer Games has in store.
The only official piece of information regarding the release of COD 2021 is that publisher Activision has confirmed that a “premium entry” into the franchise will be releasing in Q4 of 2021.
